HELEN MARIE SEMCHYSHYN September 14, 1937 - September 16, 2018 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Baba and Ol'baba, Helen Semchyshyn (nee Woloski). She is survived by her children, Judy (Dimitri), Jerry (Gwen), Joyce (Keith); grandchildren, Theo (Ntina), John (Alyssa), Nikolas (Erin), Katrina (Ross), Alex (Britney) and Lukas; great-grandchildren, Anna, Dimitra, Mario, Eleni, Dimitri, Lennon and Cash; siblings, Bill, Irene, Jean and Orest; sister-in-law Stella. She was predeceased by her husband John; parents, Michael and Elizabeth; siblings, Theresa, Mark, John and Francis. Mom was born and raised on a farm in Mountain Road, MB. She met Dad in front of the Roxy Theatre in Neepawa, MB and they were married for 57 years before Dad passed away in 2013. They made their home in Winnipeg Beach, MB where they raised their family. In 2016, Mom chose to move to Winnipeg to be closer to her children and their families. She loved to bake and cook and was very proud of her famous Yorkshire pudding, perogies, doughnuts and peanut brittle. Very seldom did anyone leave a visit without being handed a package of butterhorns or a jar of homemade soup. Mom was so proud of her three children; Baba loved her grandchildren dearly and Ol'Baba was so delighted to tell everyone that she had seven great-grandchildren. Anyone who met our Mom could feel her strength through her handshake and hugs. Mom will be remembered for her love of family, generosity, her resilience and remarkable positive attitude through her most difficult times. The family would like to thank Dr. V. Gordon for your guidance through Mom's journey with cancer. Thank you to Sean Roe from Palliative Care; Mom looked forward to your visits and we can't thank you enough for your support when we needed it the most. Lastly, we will be forever grateful to the amazing palliative staff at St. Boniface Hospital; your understanding and kindness during our saddest moments will always be remembered. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Vichnaya Pamyat May her memory be eternal Condolences, photos and videos may be left on Helen's tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • It saddens me to read this. Not only was Helen was a family friend; I also had the pleasure of working with her, back in the day, at the Beach Towers Restaurant in Winnipeg Beach. She was such a lovely lady. She would always stop to chat when our paths would cross. My deepest condolences to Joyce, Judy, Jerry and families. - Posted by: Crystal (Reykdal) Johnson (family friend/neighbor) on: Sep 19, 2018
