Born: May 22, 1946
Date of Passing: Sep 18, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) COWARD May 22, 1946 - September 18, 2018 It is with broken hearts that we announce Bill's sudden passing on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, with his wife, Valerie and his daughters, Lois and Mindy, by his side. He was 72. Bill leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Valerie; daughter Lois; daughter Mindy (McLaren), her husband Blaine, grandsons, Nolan and Hayden, and granddog Razzle; and cousin Diane Douglas of Delta, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Frank Coward, and his sister June. "Billy" enjoyed a lifetime career in telecommunications starting at CKY-AM and 30 years at CBC Radio in Radio Master Control. Always wanting to keep busy, "Willy" started working for Winnipeg Enterprises in 1975 in the audio/video department at Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg Arena and was a part of the transition to the new venues, Bell MTS Place (MTS Centre) and Investors Group Field. "Uncle Bill the cable guy" enjoyed his time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg Goldeyes, and the many amateur sport groups who used the facilities. Although he had many great experiences in life, his all-time favourite job was "Papa" to his grandsons planning adventures for ice cream as many times as possible and taking Razzle for walks. Bill also took up golf later in life and to his amazement, loved it - from partnering with his grandsons to joining the Garden City Senior Men's League. A celebration of Bill's life will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Pinnacle Club at Investors Group Field, 1:30 p.m. - with a small program at 2:00 p.m. Enter off of University Crescent. Please come to celebrate Bill in casual or Hawaiian attire. The "Bill Coward Memorial Award for Media Production Major Student" has been established in Bill's memory at Red River College. Donations can be made online at https:/hub.rrc.ca/Donate/ or mailed to Red River College, C306-2055 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3H 0J9 (please mention the award name in the comments section). I, like so many will miss Bill. I will always cherish the fact that we went for lunch just the week before his passing. I had to insist that is was my turn to pay. Whenever I go to the Olive Garden, I will always remember Bill ordering the Zuppa Toscana and asking the waitress if she could remove all the green bits. What she couldn't remove ended up on the side of his bowl. I first met Bill when he and Jack Everly worked at the old arena doing the Jets games. I got to work closer with Bill at the old Stadium rebuilding their video system. I remember that first game at the MTS arena downtown where everyone was running around in a panic and Bill quietly (with a smile on his face) knew he had everything under control. My greatest pleasure with Bill was designing the Video system for Investors Field for the Bombers. The one regret I have was not accepting Bill's invitation to a golf game this fall. (Bill, that game is going to have to wait a bit before we can play) You were a true friend and and I will miss you greatly. - Posted by: Terry Belanger (friend) on: Sep 29, 2018

I am so sorry for your loss. I know Bill was a very kind and wonderful man. He was quick to lend a hand and close to all his family. He will be very missed by all of you I'm sure. Thinking of you. - Posted by: Wendy Mitchell-Dietz (Friend) on: Sep 25, 2018

So sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Val and family at this time. Bill was the very best in what he did...and when it was a major event if Bill was involved, you just knew it was going to be perfect. Bill was always the go to man. Add to that...His love and pride in his family. Through the years we got the opportunity to spend time together...treasured time. Val and I were childhood “buds”. So many great memories...in Hawaii...and here in BC. Again, praying for you all. - Posted by: Ron & Cyndee Hill (Friends) on: Sep 23, 2018
