MONIQUE EVERTON (nee LESSARD) Peacefully, on Thursday, October 4, 2018, Monique Marie Fernande Everton, passed away at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 61 years. She has rejoined her parents, Eloi and Dorothee Lessard, her brother Hector Lessard, sister-in-law Cindy Lapusniak and brother-in-law Dave Sward, who have gone before her. Monique will be missed by her husband and best friend, Brian, her son Paul, daughter-in-law Heather and grandson Bennett Everton. As well, her absence in the family will be shared by her brothers, Jacques (Sherryl), Jean (Maureen), Rheal; and her sister Carole (Denis). She will be equally missed as a part of the Everton clan including her sisters-in law, Helene Sward and Irene Mellick (Wayne). There are numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family that will also miss her dearly. Monique was raised on the family farm and attended school in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. She cherished many lifelong friendships from that time. Monique went on to the University of Manitoba and graduated with a degree in Home Economics, specializing in Family Studies. This was the foundation for her to enter into the planning and management of the community residences for St. Amant Centre at a time of significant change and expansion of this program. Following that, Monique went on to be key in the development of Le Coin Amitié community residence for the Francophone community and Community Respite Services to support individuals with disabilities throughout the province. Planning and being organized was her hallmark and Monique eventually set off on her second career. Following further education became a consultant that specialized in computer database design. She gained experience and touched the lives of many in her work at Jenco, Investors Group, and then finally with her own company DataConstruct Ltd. One of her proudest moments was when she brought in her son Paul as a partner in her business. She was driven by the attention to detail and to truly try to understand people's needs. Humour, whether corny or silly, was a part of her and her little laugh was infectious even if the joke was a groaner. Monique loved travel, good music and good food. The best is when it happened together like on their 25th wedding anniversary bicycle trip in France. This continued with trips to Cuba, Iceland, Ireland and throughout Canada. Monique loved camping and it even got better when cycling, hiking and kayaking were added. Monique was so indebted to the Heart Throbs Running Club at the Reh-Fit Centre after her heart attack. Their friendship and support gave her a second chance at life in 2010 and she took hold of it with gusto. Monique's love of family was probably best illustrated in 2017, when along with the support of Brian, published a Lessard Family photo book that included eight generations and over 500 photos of her Lessard family. This book is a part of her legacy for her extended family and especially for her special grandson Bennett. We would ask you to celebrate the memory of Monique by keeping your family close. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, the Reh-Fit Centre, or a charity of your choice. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 11 at the St. Boniface Cathedral, 180 Ave de la Cathedral, Mass at 10:30 a.m., with eulogy starting at 10:15 a.m. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Brian & family, I met Monique years ago and was so inspired by her passion and committment to people with intellectual disabilities. She lived her values and that was evident as she gently guided others. Her legacy will live on as she made a lasting impact. At this time of sorrow and loss, I hope you are comforted by memories. Sounds just like her to create the story of your family in words and photos. On behalf of Inclusion Winnipeg, we offer our sincere condolences. Monique designed the membership data base for Post Polio Network MB. As she patiently taught me how to use this tool, we shared many phone calls. She was so patient and full of humor. Monique contributed a great deal to our community in different ways. She will be missed. My sympathy to Brian and the Everton family. I met Monique 6 or 7 years ago. Most Thursday evenings we warmed up and then did strides. I was always amazed by her speed in sprinting. She always had kind words to say to everyone and I enjoyed her sense of humor. I will miss you very much Monique. I wonder what kind and humerous comments you would say to us now to lift our spirits. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Irene Ling (Heart Throbs Running Group member) on: Oct 10, 2018

I was shocked to learn of Monique's passing in today's paper. Condolences to Brian and family. Monique was among the first students I had at Ste-Anne Collegiate back in 1973. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate tomorrow, Oct 11 because I am outside Manitoba. Would have enjoyed meeting the family. I'll keep you all in my prayers. - Posted by: Camille Légaré (fomer teacher and friend) on: Oct 10, 2018

I wish I could embrace life the way Monique did, especially during her renaissance. Not a full life by any means, but a life lived to the fullest. Who will laugh at our corny jokes, research the meaning of swears and oaths in several languages, eat curried herring on Danish rye bread, drink beer out of (yuck) frozen mugs. Brian, you and the world has lost a light. But we will not forget her; she will be with us at future get-togethers. - Posted by: Lars (A friend 37(?) years going) on: Oct 09, 2018

Thanks for being our friend. We shared so many good times. Kayaking, biking, great dinners, the debators and my favourite: the night Ron blended into your couch. - Posted by: Deanna and Ron Tayler (Friend) on: Oct 06, 2018
