RICHARD ALAN HEBERT September 26, 1954 - October 2, 2018 It is with heavy hearts and much love that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband and father, Richard Hebert. After graduating from the University of Manitoba in 1979, Richard spent many years with the City of Winnipeg Police Service, retiring in 2011. Richard was a devoted dad whose life truly revolved around his family. Predeceased by his father Leo in 2013, Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Brenda; daughters, Elizabeth and Laura; son-in-law Tom; mother Blanche and stepmother Joan; sisters, Carol (Neil), Jeanne (Tim), and Mary (Jeff); brothers, Keith (Donna) and John (Valerie); and many much-loved nieces and nephews. A private Celebration of Life and final interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Richard's favourite charities - The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee, or The Performing Animals Welfare Society. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Hi Brenda - you never met me, but I have many fond memories of Rick going back to the late '60's and early '70's. Rick, Ed and I were always together. When I got my first paper route in 1969, Rick was there every day to help with the load. The first time I went fishing and hunting was with Rick and his grandfather. That was the only time I hunted - the scars on Rick's leg would explain why. Later he moved out to St. James to live with his dad and we lost touch with each other around 1973. Now, in retirement, I was hoping to get together again, maybe meet at the Gondola on Henderson as we did so often when we were teenagers. So sorry that I'm only months too late to see him again and so sorry for your loss. Rick was a good friend way back when. - Posted by: Peter Bergen (Friend) on: Feb 25, 2019

  • Sorry to be so long conveying my condolences to you Brenda and your daughters but Joan has kept me in the loop of much you have had to deal with and certainly more than enough. Rick, what we called him back in the day, was a great kid and was always willing to help Ted with gardening chores etc. As you know, losing a partner is extremely hard but I know that in Ted's case, he is now in a better place. We were also fond of Jim when he was Ted's partner and their colleagues had great respect for them both, somehow, we will survive this. Warmest regards, Diane Keep - Posted by: Diane (Friend) on: Feb 22, 2019

  • Very sad news. Richard was one of the best Ident officers and in his many years in the section, he mentored a good number of us. He was someone who went about his work in a very quiet, methodical and unassuming manner - but was always ready to stop and engage in a discussion on forensic related topics and his input was professionally sound and thought-provoking. He came into Ident in about 1985 after a stint in Crime Division on the warrant detail and stayed until he retired, so his years of experience were extremely valued. He witnessed so much change in forensic technology - everything from the migration of the WPD fingerprint collection from the Henry Fingerprint Classification manual system to the first and second AFIS systems as well as the forensic use of DNA evidence. When some of us leave the Ident unit, the hole we leave behind is not that hard to fill. But when a guy like Richard Hebert left, the hole needing filling was both deep and wide. He was always quick to laugh at a joke or funny story. He was, in short, a great guy to know and to work with. My sincere condolences to his family on their sudden and heartbreaking loss. - Posted by: Bob Russell (Friend and colleague) on: Oct 08, 2018

  • I am very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I joined the Police department and met Richard at crime scenes. He was very personable and friendly and would explain what an Ident Officer would do at Crime Scene's. He was one of the reasons I went into Ident. We worked several scenes together and I gained a lot of knowledge from him over the years we worked the same shift. We also had a lot of laughs. I'm sorry for your loss. He was a great guy. - Posted by: Martin Lucas (coworker/friend) on: Oct 08, 2018
