LOIS JESSIE THOMAS August 10, 1927 - October 8, 2018 With deep sadness, the family of Lois Jessie Thomas announce the passing of our mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on October 8, 2018. Lois will be forever remembered by her daughter Lynn [Ron], grandchildren, Bryce, Rhys and Brittany, and great-grandson Linden; son Lloyd, and grandson Keaton; and son Brian. She is also survived by sisters, Joan [Harry] and Doreen [Ed]; sister-in-law Cay Winsor; and many nieces and nephews. Lois was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Al, in 2003; parents, Wilfred and Jessie Winsor; two sisters, Florence and Madeline; two brothers, Walter and Elton; and one nephew Dennis. Born August 10, 1927, in Kinkaid, SK, where she obtained her education, Lois moved to Regina where she met Al, the love of her life. They married in June, 1949 in Regina. Lois began working at the Singer Sewing Machine Company and later at the Canadian Government. Al joined Singer in 1951, and his career took the family to Saskatoon in 1962 and then to Winnipeg in 1967. Al and Lois purchased Midtown Sewing Centre on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg in 1985, which they sold seven years later in 1992. Long before it was fashionable, they promoted a corporate culture that had Singer employees throughout the city refer to themselves as "the Singer crew." Al and Lois travelled to many parts of the world for Singer conventions and meetings. Their love of dancing was often on display. Lois loved card games; she played bridge with considerable skill and was known for her magical cards in cribbage. She was passionate about golf, which she played into her mid-80s. Her love for sports had her bleeding "true blue" for the Bombers and the Jets. A gardening enthusiast, Lois was known for her beautiful flowers, especially her African violets. Lois and Al were very involved with 283 Army and Navy Anavets and with the Sturgeon Creek United Church. The family expresses its thanks for the outstanding care provided by Dr. Ronald George, Dr. Julian Joshua and her health care team at the Grace Hospital and to the staff of the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. A remembrance will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
