MURIEL PETO CUMMINGS September 5, 1931 - September 28, 2018 Muriel Peto Cummings (Knowles), 87, wife of the late George Edward Cummings, passed away peacefully September 28, 2018 at Concordia Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born September 5, 1931 in St. Agathe, MB, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Kathleen Peto (Knowles) and Archibald Robert Knowles, who raised her and her siblings on the family farm in Emerson, MB. Muriel proceeded to move to Winnipeg to complete her nursing training. She became a well-respected nurse at the Children's Hospital in both the recovery room and in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Moreover, she volunteered for over 60 years at St. Stephen's Anglican Church in both choir and mother's union. She was also one of first females to hold a significant leadership role in this setting, serving as the People's Warden for the congregation. Her interests included travel, going to her cottage on Lee River, porcelain painting, curling, and the company of her family and friends. She is survived by son Gordon Mackay (Carla) and daughter Kathilyn MacKay; grandchildren, Shona and Meaghan Kusyk; Luke and Blake (Jenny) MacKay; Jessie, Khalicia, and Carlyle Pettinger. She is predeceased by her husband George Cummings, husband George MacKay, daughter Maureen MacKay, son-in-law Donald Kusyk, brothers, Robert and Bruce, and sisters, Frances and Kaye. Thanks to all friends and family who continued to offer support during her last days. Thanks to Dr. S. Thomas, the Palliative Care team, and the staff of Concordia Hospital who provided excellent end-of-life care. As well, thanks to the compassionate home care provided by Susan and Linda. A memorial service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 321 Pandora Ave. West, Winnipeg on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The burial will occur at Glen Eden Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made towards the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba or to the Concordia Hospital Foundation.
