Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENDRICUS (HENRY) PETRUS VAN AERT February 9, 1930 - October 13, 2018 On Saturday, October 13, 2018 our brother and uncle, Henry passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 88. Henry leaves to mourn his sister Cathy Van Gompel (Fred) of Winnipeg; brother Kees (Ine) of Beausejour; sisters-in-law, Rita Van Aert of Portage la Prairie and Corry Van Aert of East Selkirk; as well as many nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his parents; sister Jeanne Overwater (George); brothers, Jack (Mary), Adrian and George; as well as two infant sisters in the Netherlands. Henry was born in Breda, N. Brabant, the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada with the family in June 1948, first settling in St. Eustache, MB where they worked on a sugar beet farm. Shortly afterward, in the early 1950s, he moved to West St. Paul, MB for a short time and then to St. Pierre, MB where he farmed with his brothers. In the early 1960s Henry moved to St. Andrews and lived with his sister Jeanne until the early 1970s when he moved to Winnipeg where he worked for many years at Feed-Rite Mills until his retirement. Henry loved fishing and spent many hours doing so on the Red River near his home on Euclid Avenue. One of his greatest pleasures was coming to St. Andrews and visiting with his sister Jeanne and the many nieces and nephews that also gathered there. He also enjoyed his many fishing/camping trips with his brother Adrian from Portage la Prairie, and families, which took him to remote northern Manitoba communities of Grand Rapids and Nelson House. When Henry's health declined, he moved to assisted living at St. Andrews Place in Winnipeg and made many new friends. Being a very sociable and well-read person he enjoyed the camaraderie during the exercise programs and many other activities he could participate in. We thank all the agencies who provided care for Henry these last years and especially to homecare services and the friendship of his neighbours. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, West St. Paul, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's name to a charity of your choice. Say not in grief: "He is no more" but live in thankfulness that he "was".
