GERTRUDE (TRUDY) MARIE SACHVIE (HANNER)
Date of Passing: Oct 19, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE (TRUDY) MARIE SACHVIE (nee HANNER) 1944 - 2018 Gertrude Marie Sachvie (nee Hanner) passed away on October 19, 2018, and had been surrounded constantly by her family at her side during the past two and half weeks, at Riverview Health Centre. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 53 years, Gordon Sachvie, who cherished her so much. Trudy was a mother who cared deeply for her two sons, Derrick Sachvie (Kari Ciglar) and David Sachvie (Sheila), and was "the best Oma ever" to her grandchildren, Stephanie, Laura, Madison, Matthew and Mark. Trudy was predeceased by her parents, Elisabeth and George Hanner, her brother Robert Hanner, and brothers-in-law, Norbert Sachvie and Dennis Zelt. Trudy was the second of five siblings and is survived by her sister Margaret Gaugel (Rudy), her sister Linda Hanner-Zelt, and brother Steve Hanner (Pat). Trudy will also be greatly missed by the extended "Sachvie Family", brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford Sachvie (Doreen), Audrey Serfas (Ed), Gladys Nock (Fred), Sharon Sachvie and Ron Sachvie, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Trudy grew up on Logan Avenue in Winnipeg and attended Pinkham School near home, and high school at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate (DMCI). Once she graduated, she worked at the City of Winnipeg and was a supervisor focused on social and welfare services. With the birth of her sons just a year apart, Trudy left her job at the City to focus on caring for her children and family, providing a warm and incredibly loving home throughout her life. Trudy had many talents that she shared with everyone. She was an amazing cook and baker and everyone she knew had their favourite recipes that she would make for them. From cooking the best soups, casseroles and roasts, to preserving jams, jellies and anything from the garden, and baking cookies and every possible dessert imaginable, Mom truly had a gift for making everything taste amazing. Her favourite was decorating and preparing the meals and baking over the different holiday seasons. Celebrating and entertaining over Christmas was always very special to her. Trudy was a person strong in faith and was a very active member of her church congregations throughout her life, at Lutheran Church of the Cross and Messiah Lutheran Church. She volunteered, participated in, and led so many different church programs and committees, from Sunday school, Altar Guild, women's groups and ELW, hospital and shut-in visitations, to planning national church conventions. Trudy also had a beautiful voice, was very active in the church choir and other choirs, and was a soloist who shared her gift of singing at so many weddings, celebrations of life, and other special occasions. Trudy was truly a caregiver to others throughout her life. In addition to caring for her family, she also cared for her brother Robert in home for 17 years, and he required significant care with his intellectual disabilities and special needs. When Gordon had his accident leaving him paralyzed in 2017, she tended to him daily in hospital for months, and tried as long as she could to care for him out of hospital until earlier this year. She did this while battling Multiple Myeloma cancer and the weakening that comes from this illness. She was genuinely a selfless person in how she always focused on others before herself. Her strength in enduring and responding to adversity and illness, while remaining constantly positive and strong in faith was remarkable and inspirational to all that knew her. "When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced; live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice." A heartfelt thank you for the compassionate and excellent care provided for Trudy by the Riverview Palliative Care Unit. A Celebration of Life for Trudy is planned for Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street in Winnipeg. Trudy's dear friend, Pastor Carol Janke will be officiating. All are invited to attend a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service. In memory of Trudy, donations can be made to Myeloma Canada or the Messiah Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Flowers are gratefully declined. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Auntie would always send me a birthday and Christmas present, though that was not why I admired her and loved he so. The gem in the wrapped gifts was the handwritten letter that she included about all of the happenings of my uncles and cousins and the invitations to visit. I will miss her so much and will try to bring her to life in my own actions in my own life. - Posted by: Tanya Gwendolyn Nock (Niece) on: Oct 30, 2018
