GUNNAR V. NORBERG August 9, 1931 - October 30, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gunnar Verner Norberg on October 30, 2018 at Portage General Hospital. Gunnar is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Delphie, his sons, Bryce (Tamara), Ken (Dolores) and Doug (Connie); grandchildren, Kevin (Jamie), Tara (Kurt), Meagan (Jeremy), Erik (Ashleigh), Isak, Braden and Kieran, and great-grandchildren, Sadie, Emmett, Paisley and Ingrid; his sister Ruth (Lawrence), sisters-in-law, Olive, Doreen (Axel), Dorothy Olson, brother-in-law Donald (Gert), and many nieces and nephews. Gunnar was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Maria, his brothers, Eric (Dorothy), Leonard (Elaine), Ronald (Kay), Edwin (Joy) and George and sisters, Violet (Ralph), Freda (Stan), Emma (Bob) and Regina (Sam). Gunnar was born and raised in Meadows, Manitoba and lived in the same home all of his life, except for the period they lived in Winnipeg and Thunder Bay. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and was dedicated to his faith throughout his years. He worked for CNR in the telecommunications department for 17 years before returning to the family farm in 1969. Gunnar worked on the farm until his retirement, but always kept a close eye on what the boys were up to. He was very involved in his community, serving on the Marquette Co-op Board, Meadows Community Club and was councilor for Ward 1 in the R.M. of Rosser for 18 years. He was highly respected and much loved in the community. In retirement, Gunnar enjoyed many years of travelling and spending time with family and friends. He valued time spent with family over material things. He was also very proud of his Swedish heritage, and was involved in keeping the culture and traditions alive in his family. The family would like to thank the staff at Portage General Hospital, and Interlake-Eastern Home Care for the wonderful care they provided to Gunnar. A service to honour Gunnar's life will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saint James Lutheran Church at 871 Cavalier Drive in Winnipeg. The family will hold a private family interment on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, R3E 9Z9, or to a charity of your choice. Sorry to hear about Gunnar's passing; he ceratinly had a very full and giving life. I realize he has been gone for a while now but certainly not forgotten. I first met Gunnar and Delphie when I taught their son, Ken, at Redwood Public School in Thunder Bay. Lovely family. Gunnar and Delphie were getting a new stove so they kindly gave us their used one as we were getting married in August of 1968. Very generous of them. Delphie, I still have your almond crescents' recipe. Ken was a very good student and I could tell he was from a warm and caring home. Cherish the wonderful memories of Gunnar. - Posted by: Maggie (Seeey) Barr (Family friend) on: Aug 12, 2020

My deepest sympathies to the Delphie, my cousins, and the family. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to visit recently, and have so many wonderful memories from our visits to the farm.
