ROBERT JAMES CANERS On November 5, 2018, with his family at his side, Robert James Caners peacefully joined his Heavenly family. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Delima; his brothers, Hubert and Norman; sisters, Helen and Cecile; and brothers-in-law, Lucien and Emery. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 51 years Eva (nee Gauthier); children, Angele (Garrett), Marc (Tammy), Clifford (Kathryn), Lisa and Valerie (James). He also leaves his grandchildren, Sara, Tara, Jennifer, Mercedes, Tavia, Ethan, Elizabeth, Tia, Jocelyn and Bianca; great-grandson Johnathan; and great-granddaughter Amareia; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his brothers, Philip (Pat), Paul (Rose), Anthony (Mary); sisters, Florence and Clara. Dad was born and raised in Fisher Branch, MB on the family homestead a few miles out of town. Family was everything to this very tight knit group. Dad left the farm to find work in his younger days taking jobs at the Bassett Gold Mine, in Winnipeg driving a fork lift for Allied Farm Equipment and once he married the love of his life, he drove a feed truck in Arborg until he made the decision to follow his passion of fixing vehicles, earned his mechanic's license and opened Caners Garage. Not wanting to be too far away from family, he put the shop 5' away from the home so he could help support Mom and the children and ran the shop for 40 years. Active as his family was, Dad always took time for family. Many trips to the farm on Sundays after church to see his parents, or a little party at the Gauthier's just down the road, there was laughter and music not far behind. Family camping trips became Dad's passion in the summer time and eventually Caners Village was established in Birds Hill and then St. Malo, where multiple families would converge and spend a couple weeks each summer together creating memories! A two step or a jig was never far away when Dad was around music! Like his father, he too took a very active role in the church in many areas from church council, yard maintenance and music! And oh, did he love the music. Not always on key, he sang and lead the choir from heart for many years. Dad, the integrity, values and faith you taught us will live on and although you will be missed, you will always be remembered. So for now you can join the angels singing in Heaven until we see you again. Love you Dad. Rest in Peace. Funeral will be held at St. Philips Neri Catholic Church on Saturday, November 10 at 1 p.m. followed by interment at St. Philip Neri Cemetery. • Condolences and prayers to Mrs. Caners and family. Mr. Caners was such a kind and funny man. When I needed my vehicle checked he was always accommodating. We would talk and laugh while he was doing whatever needed to be done, I would ask questions about vehicles and he was more than happy to answer. We would go into the house and have coffee with Mrs. Caners. He would ask about my family and how work was going. Rest in Peace Mr. Caners - Posted by: Heather Stevenson (Freind and customer) on: Nov 15, 2018

  • Elaine & I send our love and sympathies to Eva and family. We have been friends for many years, through church and their business. We will miss his warmth and friendliness. He was always such a positive influence. I will also miss his jokes and his no non sense practical mechanical advice. May the angels of paradise open wide the doors of heaven for you Robert.
