SVEN (GUNNAR) PERSON Gunnar Person, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 84. Gunnar grew up in Kelliher, Saskatchewan and was proud of his small town roots. Dad joined the RCMP in 1954 and was posted to Regina, Portage la Prairie (where he met Edie), Sprague, Dauphin (where Brian and Sharon were born), Churchill, Windsor, Chicago, Kitchener (where John was born) and finally Ottawa where he received his honourable discharge from the force in 1979. These 25 years were filled with precious moments and many lifelong friends. In 1979, Gunnar started a new career with the Province of Manitoba as Chief Compliance Officer. Edie and Gunnar settled in Winnipeg and remain there at the time of his passing. Dad loved spending time at the Falcon Lake cottage with family and friends. Dad was fortunate to spend many years travelling the world with Mom, and he particularly loved treating the entire family to warm winter vacations. He was a very active member of both the RCMP Veterans Association and the Royal Canadian Legion Fort Garry Branch #90, where he served many roles. It is fitting that Dad's last act for the Legion was delivering poppy boxes to Pembina Highway businesses in anticipation of Remembrance Day. Gunnar is survived by his wife Edythe "Edie", children, Brian, Sharon, John and their spouses; Susan, Joel, Christine and his grandchildren, Thea and Saskia. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Maya and his sisters, Dagney and Sylvia. In lieu flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Interment will take place at a later date at the RCMP Cemetery in Regina, Saskatchewan. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
