EDITH MARGARET GORRIE With love and sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith Margaret Gorrie, on November 25, 2018, at the age of 99. She was predeceased by her husband Morley; daughter Carol Anderson; granddaughter Karin Sparrow; her parents Margaret and Harold Appleyard; and her sisters Lillian McKay and Helen Pettigrew. She is survived by her daughters Evelyn (Allan) Hardy and Shirley (Peter) Henry; grandchildren Andra (Curt) Sparrow, Jodi and Jonathan Henry, Ryan (Linda) Hardy, Ashley (Tyler) Markowsky; and ten great-grandchildren, Erin and Meagan Sparrow, Trevor and Rachel Sparrow, Trent Kindzierski, Liam and Taylor Strickland, Alexis and Evan Hardy and Miles Markowsky. Mom was born in Ninette, Manitoba, September 13, 1919. She studied at Brandon Business College and began working for Wawanesa Insurance in Wawanesa. It was there that she met the love of her life, the local pharmacist, Morley. Together they raised three girls. Once the girls finished school, they moved to Brandon and later to Winnipeg. Mom was a 4H leader, sewing teacher, member of United Church Women and choir member and active in the Royal Canadian Legion ladies auxiliary. She had a keen interest in all of her grandchildren and was very proud of all their achievements. She loved the colour blue, loved to read, bake her famous chocolate chip cookies, travel, do jigsaw puzzles, play cards and scrabble. The family would like to thank Dr. Stanley Eng, Actionmarguerite Personal Care Home and Harmony Court Supportive Housing for the care Mom received. A service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Edith's name to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
