LILY SAFINIUK (nee MAGAS) Peacefully, with her family by her side, Lily passed away on December 2, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Lily was predeceased by her loving husband John; son George; grandson Robert; son-in-law Brian; brothers, Alex, Eddie and George, and in-laws, Hilda and Edward. She is survived by her children, Shirley, Linda and Diane (Bryan); grandchildren, Kimball (Brenda), Melissa (Rob), Brian, Amanda (Chris), Christopher (Chantelle), Jennifer (Billy) and Brianne (Ian), as well as 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mother was born August 8, 1928, lived and raised her family in the Oak Hammock area. Lily was the eldest of eight, daughter of Alexander and Mary Magas. Mother would marry her love, John Safiniuk and together continue to farm, raise four children, and develop a productive farm of stock, dairy and crop. Family and farm would grow. Dad passed a year shy of 40 years of marriage. Baba would continue to garden and work for home care until her retirement. Baba then spent her time gardening, canning, knitting and enjoying her love of family. Baba would always be a cornerstone of her family, a woman who stood strong and proud as a mother/baba of her family and to each and every one of us. Pallbearers will be Bryan Bowser, Chris Bowser, Chris Marten, Tyler Lamb, Kimball Lamb, Melissa Lamb and Kyla Lamb. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. Interment will follow in the Rossdale Orthodox Cemetery. A special thanks to Selkirk EMS and Palliative Care Unit at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
