ERIC SANDERSON MURPHY 1933 - 2018 After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Eric Murphy on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 85 years. Left to cherish his memory are children, Debbie, Brent, Cheryl and Michael, grandchildren, Melanie, Nicholas, William, Emma and John, great-grandchildren, Brooke and Owen, brothers, Lawrence (Goldie) and Dennis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine, his mom Peggy, dad Harold, brothers, Roy and Harold, and sisters-in-law, Shirley and Doreen. Eric joined the R.C.M.P. in 1954. While training in Regina, Saskatchewan he met his wife of 49 years, Geraldine. In 1975 Eric and his partner travelled to England to play in the Worlds Dart Championships where they placed third in doubles. He was president of the St. James Legion #4 from 2003 to 2004 and could be found there every Wednesday and Friday playing darts and on Saturdays to attend the meat draw. Eric was always there to cheer on anything his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in such as baseball games, football games and Christmas concerts. When the Murphy's got together there was always laughter, story-telling and of course card games. Eric's funeral will take place on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Community Church, 280 Caron Road, Headingley, Manitoba. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital for all their support and care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Eric's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. • I first met Eric when I volunteered at #4 Legion selling tickets for the meat draws on Saturdays and I remember many a Wednesday nights playing darts with him. He was always cheerful and gave me the best hugs! He has been a family friend of the Duffys for a lot longer than I’ve been around, and will be sadly missed by all of us. - Posted by: Anna Duffy (Friend) on: Dec 05, 2018

  • I have many good memories of Eric over the years, from playing darts with and against him, to just sitting and chatting. A great guy. He will be missed. - Posted by: Ian McAllister (Friend) on: Dec 05, 2018
