DOUGLAS RICHARD ANDERSON It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Anderson on December 3, 2018, beloved son of Helga Anderson and Barry Anderson, both deceased, and dear brother to Valdine Anderson. Doug leaves behind to mourn his death brother-in-law Ian Bruce Baragar, nieces, Soffia Baragar, Ingrid Baragar, Brigitte Baragar and Signy Baragar, Alexis Anderson, wife of Barry Anderson, sister Lyla Anderson and niece and nephew Alarra and Rylan Anderson, as well as relatives on his Icelandic family side. Doug was born on February 20, 1963, grew up in Fort Garry, and attended Vincent Massey Collegiate. Doug obtained his Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Manitoba and maintained a lifelong love of non-fiction literature and politics. Doug loved music and learned the piano, violin and trumpet at an early age. A natural musician, accomplished guitar player and gifted with a fine tenor voice, he gave pleasure to many while performing during his life. Doug was an avid bridge player, animal lover, elaborate camper, fixer of bikes and connoisseur of cars. Doug's beautiful smile, feisty personality and wry sense of humour will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends he made throughout his life. Doug's family thanks the staff at the Madison for their care. His family would also like to thank Dr. DeRocquigny and Rev. Bill Miller for their continued and longtime support of Doug. A service to remember Doug will be held on December 14 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street, Winnipeg, preceded by a private interment. • I am so saddened by the news. I have nothing but fond memories of Doug from Oakenwald up to high school. He was a bright light & a free spirit. We all had our 1st crushes on Doug. He was always smiling & so into music. I have a great memory of him.He & a few other Gr. 5 boys kept lining up to be spun & thrown into a snow pile over & over by "BigMac".... Peace Doug & let the fun & music play on. - Posted by: C.Kelly Deveau (childhood friend) on: Dec 13, 2018

  • Sending hugs and deepest condolences for your loss. This is very sad news indeed. Much too young to be taken from this world. I have known Doug since junior high school. He helped me by my first guitar when we were 16 years old and taught me to play.... a wonderful life gift. Thank you Doug. May you Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Shelley Maslow (Friend) on: Dec 08, 2018

  • My Sincere condolences to the Anderson family. Doug was such a great kid, I have very fond memories of him growing up across the street from us. - Posted by: Claire Beaulieu (Powell) (Childhood friend and neighbor ) on: Dec 08, 2018

  • Valdine, you have lost your mom, dad and only brother within the past year...or slightly more. Your family were “my family” growing up. Doug and I had a special friendship and I remember with fondness his visit to NYC after I left Winnipeg. Before my mom died, she often referenced Doug’s kindness coming by to offer a hand cutting grass or running an errand. Despite the demons he battled he could charm a room filled with angelic choristers. I am so sorry to bid farewell to an old buddy gone too soon. Heart- felt condolences, Valdine. ❤️ - Posted by: Carla Lother (Family friend) on: Dec 08, 2018
