JOHN PHILIBERT PILON June 22, 1951 - December 5, 2018 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of John on December 5 at the age of 67 years. John is survived by his wife Laurie; sons, David and Rene; granddaughter Kaidence; sisters, Alice, Monique, Yvette (Bob), Lucille, Denise and Suzanne; brothers, David and Thomas; brother-in-law Terry (Patricia); numerous nieces and nephews and honorary nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by very good friends, Andy and Gisele and family, Mike and Collette and families as well as mother-in-law Helen Howard. John was predeceased by his parents, Philibert and Cecile, father-in-law Irwin Howard and several aunts and uncles. John's family was extremely important to him with his pride and joy being his granddaughter, with his eyes lighting up every time she entered the room. He considered himself a jack of all trades (but a master of none). During his 20 years working for EMS he made many lasting friendships and his EMS family was a very important part of his life. Whenever John had some spare time, he got enjoyment out of flying his remote control airplanes, building some very unique bird houses and of course inventing things. John did not wish for a formal service at this time, however there will be a celebration of his life in late spring. In memory of John, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5, or to Diabetes Canada, 401-1 Wesley Ave.Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6. Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Laurie & family, so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed working with John at the Corporate Office and Lac du Bonnet Health Center. He had a heart of gold, loved his job and above all his family. - Posted by: Sharon Bissonnette (Former colleague / friend) on: Dec 15, 2018

  • My condolences to the family. I have not worked with John in several years (20+) but he left an impression on me when I was a summer student working in Lac du Bonnet and Pinawa Health Centres. One of my biggest fears was when the Emergency Line would ring and I would have to answer the call and use the radio and send out the call info and location for the emergency. John was in the office when one such call came and I looked at him in panic and said "Can you take it, the call is for you anyway?" And I remember him saying "Nope, your scared but you need to do this cause I won't always be here so this is practice for when i'm not here". I took the call and made did the radio and location call out etc. John patted me on the back and then looked at me as he was running out the door and said "See you can do it, I did not need to take the call, you know what your doing". The next time I saw John and the phone rang, while I glanced at him and I just took the call no problem and when I got off the phone and did the radio call out, he looked at me and smiled "you must have had a great teacher, you did that well". Yes John, you were a great teacher and I will never forget the lesson you taught me that day. - Posted by: Barbara King (former coworker) on: Dec 12, 2018

  • Laurie and family, Bert and I would like to offer our heartfelt sympathy and big hugs to all of you. I knew John for so many years and he was always such a warm, friendly and caring person. No matter where he always had that big smile and took out the time for a bit of a chat. He will be missed. - Posted by: Sylvia Lussier (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2018

  • Laurie and family, I cannot express how sorry I am for John's loss, and can't imagine the difficulty that comes without him there. Family was a vey big deal for him, and he spoke of you all often, especially of his tremendous love for his grand-daughter, which was apparent to all. It was my pleasure and honor to work with him the past couple of years on the Mobile Clinic and, though our shifts didn't cross too often, we spoke regularly. He was super-dedicated in what he did, and took his responsibilities very seriously. That clinic stayed humming because of his efforts, and many people in the health region benefited because he diligently kept that vehicle on the road. He was much missed when he retired. No less his time in service with EMS. There's no dispute that many people in this part of the province are alive today because of the differences John Pilon made. It's fair to say that we are better for having known him, and are diminished for having lost him. Please accept mine and Leslee's sincere condolences. - Posted by: Myles Drynan (Co-Worker & Friend) on: Dec 11, 2018

  • My condolences to Laurie and his family. John was truly an amazing person. I really couldn't ask for a better co-worker. He loved his community and his family. We always shared lots of stories about our families and how important they were to us. I still remember when his granddaughter was born. He couldn't have been a prouder grand parent. He was the backbone for the Lac du Bonnet EMS Service before regionalization. I was fortunate to work alongside him in his role as the EMS Manager for the old NEHA. He was well respected by all the EMS staff. He is leaving EMS a far better service because of his dedication and commitment. John always wore his heart on his sleeve. He never hesitated to help a fellow medic in need. John was always well organized and meticulous. I could ask him about his notes from any meeting and he could always present them in full no matter how far back he looked. They were always neat in a handwritten format with tons of post it notes with additional comments. We lost contact for awhile when I left the old region but recently reconnected when he was hired to drive the Mobile Clinic bus in the new health region. We had planned to go golfing this upcoming summer. I am really good to miss him. RIP John. - Posted by: Jay Ferens (Friend) on: Dec 11, 2018
