MIKE KUZYK
Born: Nov 19, 1954
Date of Passing: Dec 15, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMIKE KUZYK On Saturday, December 15, 2018 our husband and father, Michael Kuzyk, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He was at home working in the garage on his own, when he decided to sit down on the steps to rest. There he remained resting. Dad was born on November 19, 1954 in Poplar Point, MB to William and Mary Kuzyk (predeceased). He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Kuzyk, and his three sons, Sam Kuzyk (Julia Clark), Luke Kuzyk (Kait Stephenson) and Jake Kuzyk. Also left to grieve are brother Patrick Kuzyk, and younger sister Marian Chalifoux. Mike also leaves behind his in-laws, Bernie and Lucy Gray, Don, Al, Gary, Randy, Dianne and Suzanne, and many beloved nieces and nephews in both the Gray and Kuzyk family. Mike grew up on the family farm near Poplar Point, Manitoba, playing hockey on the creek behind the house and developed a love for the game that would permeate the rest of his life. Following in his father's footsteps, he bought a neighbouring farm at the age of 17 and turned it into a profitable, modern enterprise. Ultimately that farm was instrumental in affording Mike the ability to build the Kuzyk family home in Springfield. Born with an ear for music, life after St. Vladimir's College meant joining the Hoosli choir. He loved the farm but he loved life even more and in 1978, after many auditions at the annual Kuzyk Boxing Day parties, the Double Eagle band was formed. The band brought numerous music awards and great acclaim but more importantly than anything, it introduced Mike to the love of his life, Sharon Gray. In 1983, Mike and Sharon were married, and what a wedding it was. The party continued for the following 35 years, as Mike and Sharon raised their three boys, Sam, Luke and Jake. His passion for experiencing life to the fullest was passed down to his boys as he helped them grow with a foundation of trust and integrity. He spoke from his own genuine life experience, and became a teacher to everyone who knew him. As humble as Mike was about his own achievements, he unashamedly had no filter when it came to celebrating his sons' many successes. He coached all three boys hockey teams at one point or another and as a result he quickly became an important member of the Oakbank Minor Hockey Program. He was a favourite of both the players and their families for his infectious positivity, clear and direct feedback and fairness balanced with a willingness to win. In 1984 Mike founded Sparkus Construction, named after Sharon, who he affectionately nicknamed "Sparky". He loved the different projects and people that he got the opportunity to interact with. He was meticulous with his process in all his projects. He cared about the people he worked for, their space and the finished product. Another very important part of Mike's life was his faith in God. His Catholic beliefs helped shape not only who he was, but ultimately who we are as a family. At the Immaculate Conception Church in Cooks Creek, MB, he became an integral part of the church by serving on the executive and as an Eucharistic Minister. He always cherished the opportunity to serve God, and saw all good things come in to his life through God. We know that Dad is in a much better place right now, looking down on all of us today, cancer-free, without kidney challenges and a smile on his face. We all take comfort knowing that one day we will see him again. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada-Manitoba Branch, Unit 1-452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, 68003 Hwy. 212 in Cooks Creek, Manitoba. Divine Liturgy will be Friday, December 21 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church with Father Taras Kowch presiding. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Sharon, Jake, Luke, Sam, He was my favourite cousin! So many wonderful , varied memories....starting with fabulous Boxing Day visits to the farm as kids, him taking his 'city slicker' cousins on snow mobile rides...fun , food and music galore......and leaving with a load of freshly butchered beef to boot! How about my one and only ride in a corvette - he made it happen. Visiting me in Ottawa when he needed to skate the Rideau Canal. And finally, sitting in his kitchen being served his delicious home made saskatoon pie! Every Christmas from now on when I hear the carol 'Joy to the World', I will think of him , because that is the gift he gave to all. love and support, Monica - Posted by: Monica Lega (first cousin) on: Dec 26, 2018

My very deepest condolences to Sharon and family, Patrick and family, Marian and family. I remember when my mom and dad used to drive us to Poplar Point to come and visit you, and us kids would all play out in the yard. Also Mike was always the greatest "MC" that we had at any of the reunions that we had in Caliento. He always had lots of jokes to tell, and thoroughly entertained everyone in the room with his captivating smile. You will be sadly missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. - Posted by: Karen Hopkins (Cousin) on: Dec 20, 2018

My deepest condolences to Sharon and the boys, Pat and the Kuzyk Family. I will always think back to the almost 2 decades of fun, joyful laughter, good natured dressing room humor, and of course some entertaining hockey I was able to share with Mike. I was lucky enough to gain many happy memories of wind up parties with all the Eagles, Eaglettes, and Junior Eagles around a late night bonfire, on ski trips and at hockey tournaments. May you all find peace through your memories. - Posted by: Rick Siewert (Hockey Team Mate & Friend) on: Dec 20, 2018

My deepest sympathy goes out to Sharon and the boys. This is a huge loss for those of us that knew Mike. I played hockey with Mike for many years and also had to opportunity to see him at work on several small projects that I was managing years ago. Mike was one of the best and infectious laughter was always present wherever he was. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Dave Elmore (Hockey team mate and friend) on: Dec 20, 2018

My condolences to you Sharon and the boys. I worked for Mike for a number of years. He was the funniest guy to work for which made our job a lot more enjoyable One time we were building a green house for a friend of his and he shot his thumb with the spiker. He came to me and said to quick pull it out. I told him on the count of three I would pull with my hammer. On the count of two I pulled it out. He said "You said three" Always cracks me up when I think of that. You were a good man, a good friend Mike. I will forever miss you. - Posted by: KEEN (FRIEND) on: Dec 20, 2018

Sharon, boys, Pat and Marian, The loss of a light, that bright, brings to light, the importance of making your life meaningful. I believe, that was what Mike did. In a big way, for oh, so many. He's my first cousin and my favourite. Years would go bye without seeing one another, but when we did, the reunion was pure joy. His smile, his laughter, his light. It all made me want to live a better life. Talk about inspiration! May his spirit live on, in you all, and within his extended family too. My deepest condolences in this heart break.
