  • Grandma, you will be dearly missed. I regret that I don’t know enough about Grandma’s early years. I wish I’d asked her more. I wish I could have come around more, made more visits from Calgary. In her early years, Grandma endured a difficult Ukrainian upbringing, including a great deal of hardship and even mistreatment. As a young adult, Grandma was an extremely hard working woman, in farm and restaurant work life. I heard a story once that she gave birth one day, and the next day, perhaps later that same day?, unloaded two tons of onions from a truck. In her later years, Grandma loved to socialize with friends while playing card games at Meadowood Manor. She had a great sense of humour, loved to laugh, and would get a twinkle in her eye when telling us a funny story about someone at the Manor. However, when she played Bingo, she was “all business”! If my sister and I joined her for Bingo, she wouldn’t hesitate to correct us if we talked during the game - no talking during Bingo!! She once tried to teach Jen and I how to play crib. We were surprised to see how fiercely competitive she was, even when playing crib with her granddaughters (who were just learning)! Grandma also liked to attend the Sunday church services at Meadowood Manor. She spoke highly of the priest and enjoyed his sermons. She seemed to be very well-liked by her friends and the staff at the Manor. Whenever we’d come to see her, it was obvious that she was so happy we’d visited. She always had a sweet treat to share, and she seemed so proud to show us off to the staff and other residents at Meadowood Manor. She had very few possessions in her room, but always had her family’s photos displayed prominently on the wall. At 95, Grandma outlived so many friends and loved ones, and now has been reunited with them. Her discomfort, pain, insomnia, hearing loss, and loneliness are all over now. I’ll miss your laugh and the twinkle in your eye. God bless you Grandma, and rest in peace. - Posted by: Lisa O’Sullivan (Granddaughter ) on: Dec 23, 2018

  • To: Debbie, Brian and Robert and your families. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and condolences on the passing of your mother, Sophie. You do remember me...back from our days in St. Norbert and later in Fort Garry. I recall helping deliver fresh corn to the market with Borden and your uncle Mike. I recall our many visits and taking Carol to my senior graduation prom. Your mother seemed to tolerate our many antics...may she now rest in peace.
