MARGARET ANN PETERSON (nee HAY) December 15, 1923 - December 16, 2018 Peacefully, with her family by her side, our cherished wife, mother, grandma and gran passed away on the afternoon of Sunday, December 16, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 95. Marg's precious memories will be lovingly remembered by her husband Vern, her daughters, Betty (Doug) and Barb (Kory); grandchildren, Jennifer (Tommy), grandson Chris (Jessica) and two great-grandsons, Jack and Max; sisters, Joan, Shirley and their families. Marg was predeceased by her parents, Lizzie and Alexander and her sisters, Vi, Betty and Irene. Marg was born in her grandparents' home in Transcona and lived her entire life in Transcona. She made many lifelong friendships, some starting as early as elementary school days at Central School. These friendships became very dear to her. Marg was very proud of her Scottish heritage and celebrating Robbie Burns Day every year. Bagpipes, Scottish music and spending time with her sisters always made her happy. Marg met Vern in 1947 in Transcona and they were married the year of the flood on May 27, 1950. They raised two daughters and they were blessed with an incredible life together for 72 years, caring and enjoying each other until last week. Marg took great pride in her family and her life revolved around home and family. The cookie jar was always full and the door always open, and the beautiful roast beef cooked every Sunday while watching Walt Disney. She always enjoyed family vacations whether it was Winnitoba, camping or on the beaches of Hawaii. Grandma loved attending her grandkids school concerts and all the sporting events: hockey, soccer and dance as they grew up. Marg was a very loving person who gave of her time freely and she was a very loyal friend with incredible penmanship that kept her in touch with her friends. Marg loved life, fun and laughter and enjoyed her friends; the sewing club, the TT Club and "The Gang" on Saturday nights. Mom had the best laugh and enjoyed the moment. Marg was a longtime member of the Transcona Memorial United Church where she spent many hours in service and friendship as a member of the UCW. She taught Sunday School, Messengers and CGIT and was a member of Confidence Rebekah Lodge #40 for 75 years. Marg volunteered her entire life, donating her time and taking care of others. At Marg's request, no funeral service will be held at this time. The family wishes to thank Dr. Caners for always being there for Marg and Richard of palliative care and the 6th floor nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in her memory to Rossbrook House and St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care. Condolences can be left at seasonsfunerals.ca

  • What a dear lady. She was a neighbor in Transcona for many years as I grew up and helped in bridal showers for my wife Barbara and a close friend of my mother Betty Dunn since Vern and Marg moved into their house on Victoria Avenue West. They were also neighbours in Transcona Place. A dear lady who left her mark on the community. - Posted by: Blake Dunn (Friends) on: Dec 22, 2018
