DYANAND GANGHADHAR MAHARAJ Dyanand Ganghadhar Maharaj passed away peacefully on December 21, 2018. He was born in Mt. Stewart Village, Trinidad on December 28, 1935. He was predeceased by his brother Hollis and his parents. Dyanand moved to Canada in the mid 1960s where he obtained a Bachelor of Education and Master's of Education Degree. He taught for over 40 years in numerous schools in Trinidad, Northern Manitoba and the St. James School Division. He highly valued education throughout his life and career and believed education should result in purification of the heart. As a teacher and administrator, his career exemplified those beliefs. As a Sai Devotee, he believed in, and practiced, the basic human values of truth, peace, good conduct, non-violence and the greatest of these - love. These beliefs and practices were the very bedrock of his existence. He used effectively the talents that God had given him and lived his life as an inspiration to others. Dyanand made selfless love the motto by which he lived and he focused on what wais good in everyone. He loved sports, including golf, cricket and bowling. He could be found regularly umpiring a cricket match on Saturdays and Sundays at Assiniboine Park cricket grounds or golfing with his friends at various courses. He seldom missed an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends, to socialize, and to dine and dance with joy and exuberance. Singing was another of Dyanand's passions. He could often be heard singing the songs of Frank Sinatra, Englebert Humperdink, Bhajans and the timeless Indian melodies. Dyanand was the eldest of four children born to Boodia Bassie Seukeran and PT Raghunanan Maharaj. He is survived and greatly missed by his beloved wife Sita, daughters, Nardia, Sherri, Shara (Clayton), his cherished grandchildren, brothers, Mike (Meena) and Anirude (Shirley), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and their families and many friends. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg. A celebration of his life will follow the funeral service filled with songs and memories to be held on Friday, December 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Winnipeg Sai Centre, 790 Banning Ave. All are welcomed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Sai Centre and to CancerCare Manitoba. "There is no nobler quality in the world than love."
