HEATHER JANE SCHINDEL Heather Jane Schindel, born August 6, 1983, aged 35, passed away unexpectedly, at her home, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. She was born to Shirley and Dennis Schindel of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Heather grew up in Charleswood and graduated in 2001 from Oak Park High School. After high school she attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the Asper School of Business. Shortly after, Heather returned to university to pursue a degree in education. She earned her Bachelor of Education jointly from the University of Winnipeg and Red River College. Heather spent her entire teaching career at Portage Collegiate Institute where she taught French and Business classes and made lasting relationships with many colleagues and students. Heather always lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; hanging out with friends, spending time with her family or cuddling up on the couch with her two cats: Shadow and Oscar. She enjoyed travelling and exploring new places, she was never afraid to try something new. Heather had a sharp sense of humour and made friends easily. She was kind, loving and always put the feelings and needs of others before her own. Heather is survived by her parents, Shirley and Dennis Schindel, her brother Jeff Schindel (Kaitlynn), her loving grandmother Mathilda Schindel, her Aunt Val Wagar (William), her uncles: Ken Schindel (Echo), Lynnwood Wagar, and her godparents, Bonnie and Alex Ross. She will also be forever remembered by her extended family and beloved friends. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg. I have fond memories of playing soccer with Heather and can still picture her contagious smile on the field all these years later. My deepest sympathy to her family, I am so terribly sorry for your great loss. You are all in my thoughts at this very difficult time. The memorial video of Heather is beautiful and the love she had for her loved ones beams through the pictures beautifully. - Posted by: Heather (Friend) on: Jan 02, 2019

I met Heather around the age of 10 or 11 through Charleswood Youth Soccer. I played with and against Heather at different stages of our soccer careers. As a teammate, Heather was always positive, always gave her best effort, and was supportive on and off the field. I played striker and Heather a formidable defender. I always felt great about the fact that she was back there. I also had the opportunity to attend high school with Heather. Whether it was on the soccer field, or at school, Heather was always positive. She is one of the few people I have known in life who if you asked anyone who crossed paths with her, you would not hear a single negative thing about her. I was not surprised to learn that Heather had become a teacher. She was a kind, intelligent, witty, nurturing soul. I am deeply saddened by her passing. My profound condolences to her parents and to Jeff. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Michelle Wren (Friend) on: Jan 02, 2019

I was fortunate to get to know Heather in high school. We then played on the same soccer team for a number of years, and then started teaching French at the same time. She always made soccer fun with her easy-going personality and serious talent. I also loved knowing that I would meet up with her and see a friendly face at French PD days. I'm so sad we lost such a wonderful friend. My sincere condolences to her family during this incredibly difficult time. - Posted by: Laura (Friend) on: Dec 30, 2018
