MARLENE LEONA POKRANT (nee KOTCHOREK) September 2, 1938 - December 22, 2018 Peacefully and finally pain free, after a battle with cancer, Marlene went to home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2018 at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre at 80 years old. Left to cherish her memory and dearly missed by her husband Cliff of 61 years and her two sons, Gord (Iris) and Doug (Karen), sisters, Deanna (Keith) Hood and Eileen (Harvey) Pischke, sister-in law, Jean (Harold) Klassen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Rudolf and Elizabeth Kotchorek. In her early years Marlene attended Success Business College and went on to work at various jobs for a number of years including the TD Bank, and as a "super snooper" for Dominion Grocery Stores. Marlene loved golf and curling and was a member of the Tuxedo ladies golf club and Blumberg. In the winter she was often happily found at the Charleswood Curling Club and developed lasting friendships. Cliff and Marlene settled in Selkirk in 2013 after spending 25 years living between life at the cottage at Lee River and travels to their Texas family down south. Prior they raised their family in Charleswood. Marlene and Cliff were members of the Lutheran Church. Heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care provided by the nurses and the palliative care team in Medicine 1 at Selkirk Regional Health Centre. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Keith and I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the entire Pokrant family. Sadly, we know all too well how awful this disease can be and although it's so very hard to lose a loved one, know that she is no longer in pain. Much love and a special hug to Mr. Pokrant, Doug and Gord. Love Lori and Keith - Posted by: Lori Harding (Family Friend) on: Jan 07, 2019

  • Marlene was my adopted mother during my younger years. I spent most weekends with Doug at the lake, this included Marlene and Cliff. They prevented me from going down the wrong road, taught me honesty and being a good person in this life. I remember one Friday as they were going to the cottage, Marlene asked if I was coming up for the weekend. (I usually was there like a fixture every weekend.) I had said no, not this weekend. In the morning I had changed my mind and drove out, they weren’t expecting me, as I pulled in, Marlene was there and said to me, I knew you’d be here. That’s the thing with the Pokrant’s, the most giving, inviting family I ever knew. My heart will always miss you Marlene, rest now. • Marlene and I started out as school mates, "sisters" at her parents home and then, we became sisters-in-law, creating many memories of years ago. We didn't see each other too often but kept in touch at Christmas and Birthdays and whenever I came to Winnipeg after they moved to Selkirk. Cliff and Sons remember all the good memories. She will be missed by many. - Posted by: Myrna (Nickel) Block (Friends and former sisters-in-law) on: Jan 02, 2019

  • Cliff and Marlene were long time friends with my Mom and Dad and through that friendship our families spent time together making many wonderful memories. My middle name apparently comes from that friendship! When reaching one of the milestones in my life, Marlene put on a beautiful wedding shower for me! Cliff and Marlene were always active. I remember Cliff and Marlene used to take long walks and occasionally end up walking from Charleswood to Westdale stopping in to visit Mom and Dad. We are thinking of you in your loss of Marlene. May the memories of your times together bring you comfort, and in time, great joy. Marlene will be in good company and is another angel to watch over us all. With love and hugs, Joe and Wendy (Brown) Krupnik. - Posted by: Joe and Wendy Krupnik (Family Friends) on: Jan 02, 2019

  • We are truly saddened to read of Marlene's passing. We have fond memories of happier times in Weslaco, Texas.....water aerobics with Marlene were always a joy, to look up at that bright sunshine in the cold winter months, while in the pool at Pine to Palm. Wishing Cliff and family our sympathy and may you be comforted by your many memories of happier days. - Posted by: Linda & Rob Freeman (Texas friends) on: Dec 31, 2018
