ROBERTA TALMAGE (nee KOSTYNUIK) With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, auntie, friend and daughter, Roberta Marie Talmage (nee Kostynuik). Roberta passed away surrounded by family and friends on December 21, 2018, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Roberta will be dearly missed by her children, Brenna (Evan) and Trey Talmage; her parents, Marguerite and William Kostynuik; her brothers, Peter (Sharon), Andy (Deb) and Joseph (Nikki) Kostynuik; her nieces and nephews, Derek (Kristen), Kelsey (Rob), Hailey, Sheldon, Adam, Zachary, Gabriel, Jory, Ali, Shelby, Courtney and Taylor; Mary Lou Talmage and Roger Briand; and her dog, Bella. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Jessie and William Leckett, and Anne and Michael Kostynuik. Roberta was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 15, 1968. Roberta and Rod raised their family in Charleswood. Her love for her family was deep - Brenna and Trey were the most important parts of her life and she was quick to talk about their accomplishments with whoever would listen. She told it like it was in the most loving way possible and always lit up the room with her snappy sense of humour. Her career in real estate began in the 1980s, firstly with Coventry Realty, then Kilkenny Real Estate. She spent the past 26 years at Sutton Group and was described as the heart and soul of the company. The office staff lovingly referred to her as 'momma bear'. Roberta's circle of close friends was so special to her. From trips to concerts to walks and barbeques, she spent countless hours with her friends that felt more like family to her. She was always there whenever anyone needed her. Her family would like to thank those friends that were there when she needed them. During her travels, Roberta made some great friends in Phoenix, Arizona, and they plan to host a memorial in her honour in January. Special thanks to Dr. Harris, the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and Dr. Christie Rampersam and the staff at Ward GA4 at the Health Sciences Centre. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Anavets Assiniboia Unit #283, 3584 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • Your passing brought me great sadness even though we never had the opportunity to meet. I am a Kostynuik in blood if not in name and it was you that provided the missing link. We both took a chance not knowing what to expect but I am eternally grateful that you did. Rest in peace Roberta, I hope we cross paths in Heaven. - Posted by: Selena Banks (long lost cousin) on: May 28, 2019

  • My sincere condolences to Roberta's family. Birdie was a great friend from elementary school and junior high. Sadly we lost touch going to different high schools. She was an amazing basketball player and athlete. She had a great sense of humour and bubbly personality. She is one of those people that leaves a lasting impact on your life and I have thought of her often over the years. So sorry we didn't reconnect. Rest in Peace Birdie. - Posted by: Christine Wiens (Rupps) (Friend from Charleswood) on: Feb 07, 2019

  • Having worked alongside Roberta I can say she will really be missed. Roberta found a way to navigate through the challenging struggle with cancer these past few years but she never much allowed that to interfere with being a good friend and co-worker. She did not draw attention to herself in spite of what she was going through. In the one conversation I had with her regarding her sickness she just said, "there are others who have had a more difficult life than I". Roberta was so loved and appreciated and I pass on my condolences to her children and extended family. - Posted by: Clarence Braun (Co-worker) on: Jan 04, 2019

  • Roberta lite up every room she walked in. She was such a funny and caring woman. She held a special place in my heart as we often spoke about kicking cancers ass(something we have in common) she was amazing at her job! She made everyone feel welcome and supported. I will miss her dearly every time I walk in the office! My heartfelt condolences to her kids and entire family! Tears roll down my cheeks as I remember some fun times with her. May she rest in peace. • Roberta has been a large part of our family since she was in grade 2 and became fast friends with my daughters Jackie and Caroline. I love her like a daughter. We had so much fun going to Bingo, her sense of humor was huge and she was so much fun to be around. She was so brave and strong the past few years. I never heard her complain. I will miss her so much! Rest easy dear girl! Love Grace - Posted by: Grace Gillespie (Friend) on: Dec 29, 2018
