VICTORIA BRENKO With great sadness and enduring love, we must share with you the passing of Victoria Brenko (nee Turanski) at home in Pine Falls, MB on Friday, December 28, 2018. Victoria was a lady who was warm, gentle, loving, giving and kind to all, who always had a smile on her face and saw the beauty in everyone. She was known as "Ma" or "Mom" to many that knew and visited her. Victora, aged 95, was born in Brooklands, Winnipeg on February 7, 1923 to Leon and Karolina Turanski, and was married to William Basil Brenko (August 29, 1942) and had two sons, Leon and Bill, and her much loved dog Samson. Victoria suffered greatly the loss of her son Leon (Lonnie) while Lonnie was only 17, the worst living nightmare any mother is forced to endure. Victoria had worked at Eaton's for many years in Winnipeg. On weekends the boys were taken camping and fishing by their loving parents. When Victoria's husband Basil retired from CPR, they visited Europe and Windsor, ON where they had many dearly loved and closely held family. Basil and Victoria finally settled in Pine Falls some 37 years ago. Victoria always had a good book at hand, and she loved working in her garden, her flower beds, enjoying her friends and pets, doing puzzles and sewing clothes for dolls for children, collecting, repairing and cleaning good clothes to be given as donations to non-profit charitable organizations. Victoria really enjoyed the outing of playing penny slot machines where she enjoyed meeting new friends and socializing, this was a happy time for her. Victoria was predeceased by her husband Basil, her dearly beloved son Lonnie, and brothers, Paul, Leon, Joe and Steve and sisters, Stella, Lena, Albina and Nellie and her dearly loved family in Windsor, Anne, Tony, Ollie, Gord and Wayne. Victoria is survived and is greatly missed by her son Bill, who loved her so very much, her nieces and nephews, Joan (Ed), Carol (Steve), Linda, Steve and cousin Lisa, by dear friends who were like sons to Victoria, Jamie Lavadier and Charlie Sammons, and very much by Ashley Cyr (and her family) who "adopted" Ma as her grandmother and shared a great love and by neighbours James, Leila, Maria, Brian and Barb, who were much more than neighbours, they are good and dear friends, and by many other family and friends throughout Canada and the United States. Victoria was cared for with love in the warmth and comfort of her own home. Her final days were without pain and suffering. The family wishes to thank Mom's caregivers, Ashley Cyr (who's skills allowed Ma to remain in her home until her passing), and Linda Dittberner, who greatly assisted Ashley in the care of Ma and cousin Lisa Zoppa. They so very lovingly and caringly "walked with us" through Ma's illness. Very special thanks for nieces, Joan (and her husband Ed) and Carol Duma (and her husband Steve) who shared a great love with Mom, as if they were not just nieces, but mother and daughters. It is with great gratitude that I thank Ashley so very much for managing all the details that must be attended to upon one's passing. Honouring Victoria's wishes, there will be no service, as cremation was Mom's wish; arrangements are with Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB. In lieu of flowers, if you care to, please donate to a charity of your choosing. We love you Mom, always will. You will eternally be in all our hearts... Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Dear Bill: I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad were my parents' (Maria and Peter Zbyr) best friends and I have many fond memories of good times spent together. I'm sure they are all sitting around a table enjoying each others' company again. Vicki was a wonderful person. May she rest in peace and may God grant comfort to you and all who love her. - Posted by: Linda (Zbyr) Bretecher (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2019
