Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS (ELAINE) RINN (nee HALLETT) Phyllis passed away at the age of 93 at the Grace General Hospital on December 31, 2018. Elaine had been residing at Oakview Place Extendicare where she had been for the past two months. Elaine was born on November 8, 1925 in Oak Lake, Mb. She was predeceased by her parents, Gertrude May and Edward William Hallett; sister Margaret Brownlie; and brother-in-law Ronald Brownlie. Elaine is survived by daughter Heather; sons, Brad (Susan) and Brian (Sandra); and grandchildren, Joe, Pauline (Eric), Mark (Chenoa) and Brenden; as well as many nieces and nephews. As a child, Elaine moved from town to town in rural Manitoba, as her father worked for CP rail as a section house foreman. She and her family stayed in small towns such as Oak Lake, Routledge, and Bradwardine. As a young woman, Elaine attended hairdressing college in Winnipeg, becoming a stylist and then moving to Virden to practice her trade. Elaine married and had a daughter, Heather. Elaine and her first husband divorced and Elaine married George Rinn in 1956. George and Elaine moved to Winnipeg, where they purchased a home on Goulding Street in the West End. Shortly thereafter, twin sons Brad and Brian were born in 1958. The little house on Goulding was home for more than 60 years. When the boys were in their teens, Elaine found part time employment at Eaton's, Polo Park at the candy counter, where she met many friends. Elaine was an avid reader, loved movies and in her later years would enjoy travel. Elaine enjoyed a family vacation to England and travelled to Jamaica, Florida and Hawaii after George's retirement. Elaine belonged to a lunch club called the "Lunch Bunch" and the club would meet weekly at the local parish hall. Elaine remained in close contact with family in England. Elaine spent the better part of 2018 in hospital and even on the not great days she would always quote her mom saying "don't wish your life away Elaine." Elaine was a sweet, kind lady placing family above all. She loved her children and grandchildren and always made sure they knew. As per Elaine's wishes a private family service will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment following in the spring. The family wish to thank Oakview Place Extendicare for their kindness and excellent care. Mom/Grandma we love you and you will be missed. I grew up on Minto Street across the back lane from Brad & Brian's, their mom was indeed a very special person and was always so very nice to me growing up. I can still remember knocking on their back door to see if either Brad or Brian could come out to play catch on a Saturday. My condolences to Brad & Brian and family.
