EVA HIEBERT Peacefully on Friday, Jan 4, 2019 and ever so gently, with family by her side, mom completed the circle of her journey home. Mom was born December 9, 1930 in Edenburg, Manitoba in the heart of the Mennonite Belt. She was predeceased by her husband Dave; parents, Peter and Katharina Hildebrand; brothers, Peter, Abram and Henry; sisters, Katharina, Maria, Helena, Olga and Anna. She is survived by and will be loving remembered by her sister Henrietta; sons, Wayne (Luana), Rick (Violet); her daughter Sandy (Jim) and grandchildren, Dane and Daryl Anne. Mom was a woman who embraced life with joy, laughter and incredible energy. She loved to spend time outdoors, whether it was camping, gardening, taking care of the yard or just sitting out on her patio, which was rare as she always had to be on the move. She was never happier than those times when she and dad were heading down the road with the camper trailer ready for a new adventure and more time in the "bush" as mom referred to it. Mom and dad instilled a love of nature in all her children and some of our fondest memories are comprised of the smell of pine trees mixed with wood smoke and the woods canvas tent. Mom was not your typical Mennonite, more of a new age Mennonite, she was deeply spiritual but was capable of using some colourful language if provoked. She had a passion for music and dancing and both she and dad loved to socialize. After baking fresh buns and putting on a pot of borscht or chili for the kids, making the house spotless, including waxing the floors, mom loved to get "dolled up" and head out for the evening, somehow finding the energy for all this even after having worked all week. Many Saturday nights we were woken to the sounds of country music or perhaps a Strauss waltz blending with the sounds of laughter as the Fort Rouge Legion crew partied into the wee hours of the morning. After father's passing, mom continued to live on her own in the family home until a serious stroke put an end to her independent way of living. She found a new home at the Golden Door where she received excellent care from the wonderful loving staff until her passing. Mom referred to them as her angels and they will miss her hand rubs and gentle nature. A special thank you to Dr. Sheila Domke, Mira, Sonia and to Jess for the extra gravy. We would also like to thank family and friends who visited mom during these last years of her journey. Our deepest gratitude to mom's niece Eleanor, who would bring china cups for coffee and timbits to share with mom on her frequent visits. Mom was also blessed with her special girlfriend Michelle, who provided such loving care when family could not be there. We will miss so much this wonderful woman, who was not only a real cool mom but our good friend as well. Look out dad, trouble is on the horizon. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
