WILFRED T. WOWCHUK March 1, 1929 - January 4, 2019 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Wilf Wowchuk on January 4, 2019. Wilf is remembered with love by his spouse of 34 years, Joyce Pierce and extended family, Glenda, Les, Shelley, Darryl and their children. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Wilf was born in Rama, Saskatchewan on March 1, 1929. He grew up in a large family, being the youngest of 13 children. He was predeceased by his parents, all siblings, some nieces and nephews, and his stepson Greg (Pierce). After coming to Winnipeg, Wilf worked at Ashdowns and then worked at Dorsey Station Manitoba Hydro until his retirement on December 21, 1989. He enjoyed playing in his bands, played baseball and hockey. Wilf is in the Manitoba Music Hall of Fame with the Glen Frain and His Buckaroos band. He spent many hours bike riding in the neighbourhood and talking to many people. Wilf was riding his bike until April 2018. Wilf had a humorous side and was always quick with a joke to share. He is seen in so many pictures, smiling, joking around and being himself. He enjoyed travelling with Joyce to Hawaii, Disney World, Barbados, Toronto and Calgary, car trips out west to visit family in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia and to "Bobs Beach" in Kenora. Thank you to all West Park Manor staff (where Joyce resides), residents and families for their support and concern. Neighbours, Gord, Darlene, Felix and Donna were very supportive to Wilf and Joyce over the years. Their support was so appreciated. Thank you to the Rosewood staff and residents (Christine, Sandra and Heidi) for his 11 day stay until his passing. Celebration of Wilf's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will take place prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. for those who wish. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Wilf's passing, I worked at Manitoba Hydro at Dorsey Station from 1970 to 1991, and remember Wilf riding his bike from one end of the valve hall to the other. I also played accordion with him in the band "The Vasalunders" for many years, and what a wonderful bass player he was. He was a good friend, our sympathy to Joyce, and to everyone who knew him! - Posted by: Edie & Carl Simonson (Friend) on: Jan 12, 2019
