VIOLET PEARL BROWN January 10, 1935 - January 23, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Violet Brown, at the age of 84 years. Violet was predeceased by her husband Jack and parents, Mary and Michael Solomon. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Mike (Shirley), Kim, Alice (Marc), Jim (Sandra) and Eric (Meriana), grandchildren, Michael (Christie), Ryan (Christina), Tyler (BreAnne), Matthew (Mandy), Cara, Erin (Joscelyn), Rachel (Tim), Corey (Joanne), Colton (Eveline) and Julia, great-grandchildren, Brianna, Shayneen, Shayton, Savana, Peyton and Khloe, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Violet was born just outside of Dauphin on the family farm near Fork River. Her family then moved to Winnipeg where Vi lost her mother to illness when she was only eight. She was raised by her father and spent many summers with relatives in Kenora and Dauphin. She became a very resilient, strong, independent woman and helped out at the family grocery store from an early age. She attended elementary school at Earl Grey, eventually graduating from Isaac Newton High School in 1953. In 1954 Mom and Dad were married and lived in Keewatin, then the Wolseley area. By 1960 they had settled on the five-acre farm just outside of Selkirk where they raised their five children, and which remains the family home until this day. Mom loved living in the country, raising chickens and gardening and would freeze and can all the produce in the fall. Mom worked part time at Eaton's and Rifkin's, and eventually returned to college in 1985 where she earned her office administration and bookkeeping diploma. She then went to work for Warkov Safeer until her retirement. She enjoyed designing and sewing and often made the outfits she and her daughters wore to social events. Vi was very active in her church and various ladies' groups. She led the crafts activities for bible school, made costumes for Christmas pageants, created beautiful quilts and attended various functions. She also had a passion for the arts, especially Rainbow Stage and the ballet. Violet was loved by all who knew her. She always made everyone feel welcome in her home and was kind and gracious until the end. Family was the most important thing to her, and she instilled that bond in all of us. The family would like to thank Dr. Paradoski and all the staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for their kind and loving care provided to Mom and the family. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB. Mom will be interred with Dad at MacKenzie Presbyterian Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Manitoba Lung Association. ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS Condolences, pictures and videos may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of your Mom's passing. Your Mother was such a sweet person. I will always remember the wonderful craft projects she directed at Daily Vacation Bible School at Mackenzie. I even found myself doing one of the projects with my daughter when she was growing up. She was a very hard working lady and I admired her return to work after being home many years. May you all find great comfort in the wonderful memories you have of her! - Posted by: Beryl Gray (Kreviazuk) (Friend of Alice and Kim) on: Jan 27, 2019
