Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIOLA NICKLAS (nee OLAFSON) June 16, 1922 - January 21, 2019 Iola passed away peacefully, family by her side. Iola was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) Nicklas, her son Wayne and her grandson Larry. She is survived by her daughters, Sylvia (Ken) and Ruth (Bob), daughter-in-law Judy (Rubin), grandchildren, Darcy (Suzanne), Dale, Kevin and Nicola and great-grandson Joshua. Iola was born and raised in Wynyard, Saskatchewan. She married Jack Nicklas on January 1, 1944. The young family relocated to Winnipeg in 1951, where she lived until the time of her death. Iola was a very active and vital person. In addition to raising her family, she worked and volunteered well into her late 80s. Her true love was volunteer work which included teaching Sunday School for 35 years, many school and community committees, and canvassing for charities. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. Iola held many positions and spent countless hours working with several Scandinavian organizations. Iola was the proud recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medallion in recognition of her tireless volunteer work and her value to our community. A celebration of Iola's life will take place on Saturday, January 26 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 11:00 a.m. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family. So sorry to have missed Iola's Celebration of Life. She and I travelled to Gimli to the Islendingadagurinn for several years with her Achievers display. She was a real trooper! And very dedicated to many causes. - Posted by: Dawn Hjalmarsson (Friend) on: Jan 30, 2019
