RENATE ADELHEID HOFFMANN December 31, 1923 - January 24, 2019 Renate Adelheid Hoffmann (nee Schulz) passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019 at St. Joseph's Residence in Winnipeg. Born in Lewitten, East Prussia, Germany on December 31, 1923, Renate's life was greatly affected by war. In 1953 she moved from what was then West Germany to Winnipeg to join Guenter Hoffmann. Marrying that year, Renate and Guenter embarked on a new Canadian life together that spanned 60 years before his passing in 2012. Renate cherished her family, and nothing made her happier than creating lavish Sunday family feasts. She had a soft spot for animals, especially homeless cats, which reflected her deeply humane nature. Renate applied her deep-rooted sense of adventure to travel, which took her, together with Guenter, to many countries and several continents. She loved to laugh, giving her eyes a perpetual sparkle. She leaves behind four children: Ilona (Tom), Harold, Ron (Andrea) and Gordon, her grandchildren, Shaylyn (Kosta), Elise and Ingrid, and her great-granddaughter Ariella. Renate was predeceased by her granddaughter Chelsea. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Joseph's Residence for their compassionate care. Should friends so desire, a donation can be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. The family will have a private memorial. Allan and I were so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with u during this sad time. I have such wonderful memories of your mom as I was growing up. She was such a warm person, always smiling and always welcoming me into her house. I’ll never forget those delicious German tortes that she would bake. Your mom was a special woman and she will be with u always. “A mother is with us always, first in her lifetime, then forever in our memory.” - Posted by: Allan and Sharon Procter (Friend of the family) on: Jan 26, 2019
