Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTED RIBBERS August 22, 1927 - January 28, 2019 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dad, pops, grandpa, uncle and friend. He is survived by his children, Willie (Norma), Harry (Allison), Henry (Selma), Anny (Garth), Agnes (Murray), Ted (Kim), Gary and Maryann; as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews here in Canada and in Holland. He was predeceased by his wife Maria in 2016; grandchildren, Brian and Adam; daughter-in-law Louise; son-in-law Chad; his brothers and sisters in Canada and Holland; as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland. Pops was born in Eibergen, Holland on August 22, 1927. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and married Maria in 1955. Ted had many jobs his first few years, farmhand, bush camp, milk delivery, auto wrecking , etc. then once established they settled in Headingley on a small farm where they raised their large family. The majority of his working career was at the St. James School Division where he held a custodian position at various schools in St James, as well, continued to operate the farm to help make ends meet and feed the family. Ted remained on the farm until Maria passed in 2016, when he moved to Westhaven Independent Living. A true statement of who he was. Although meals and daily care were provided he proudly remained independent up to a week before his passing. When thinking back on Pop's life, the things precious to him were his wife, children, the farm and being outdoors, tinkering, whether it was tending to the animals, working in the fields, gardening or going for long walks. He also enjoyed spending time on puzzles and in the earlier days playing card games. We will miss your smile and wave, rest in peace, we love you. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Charles Parish, 330 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the family for a luncheon provided afterward at the church. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is recommended. Such an awesome picture. I remember when it was taken with Mrs. Ribbers sitting beside him while their family gathered in Agnes' backyard. I remember a hospitable, open fellow ready with a hug whenever we visited. I enjoyed his stories about his homeland, war time, details about his early life in Canada and how he and Mrs. Ribbers grew their family and farm, working at the school and so much more. He and Mrs. Ribbers raised a family as hard working and lovely as they were. The world is a better place for them having been in it. Deepest condolences to the family. Ted and Maria Ribbers were examples from Genesis 1:27-28; “God created man in the image of himself, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying to them, Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it...”. He planted them in their “Garden of Eden” on Dodd’s Road in Headingley. They reaped in Willie, Harry, Henry, Anny, Agnes, Ted, Gary and Maryann. They were blessed further in their bounty with grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended families and friends. On behalf of our large family; Gordon (deceased), Harvey, June, Grace, Lois, Elden and Joy and families. We wish to offer our deepest sympathies. We remember the good times of going to school, riding the bus while having fun and playing with you all. Take comfort and continue to love one another. - Posted by: The Fetterly Family (Headingley Neighbors & Friends) on: Feb 03, 2019
