CHESTER MARTIN CHAPIL September 27, 1943 - February 4, 2019 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Chester Chapil, at the age of 75, on Monday, February 4, 2019. He was predeceased by his mother Jessie Chapil and father Edward Chapil. Chester will be lovingly remembered by his wife Maggie Chapil; five children, Michelle Shworob (Victor), Nigel Chapil, Amber Chapil (Greg), Angela Hoydalo (Russell) and Cynthia McDonald (Clint); 12 grandchildren, Austin, and Marshall Shworob, Angelique and Braeden Chapil, Jessica and Brock Chapil, Nigel, Harley, Wesley and Lilly Hoydalo, Chloe and Nova McDonald. Chester grew up in Vidir, Manitoba until the age of 14 where he then moved to Winnipeg to live with his aunt. He attended Red River College to get his T.V. Technicians Licence while maintaining a job at Will's Taxi. It just so happens driving for Will's Taxi, was where he met the love of his life Maggie -who was one of his fares. Chester and Maggie were happily married for over 50 years together. They built a life filled with faith, love and adventure. Chester had many different locations for his T.V. Repair business in both Selkirk and Winnipeg, this is where he built so many of his friendships. He wasn't only known to be the T.V. repairman, he also ventured into fireworks because he loved to blow stuff up. Chester had many hobbies. He loved to fish all over Manitoba toting along his whole family in the blow up bombarde. So many funny memories and adventures we won't forget. Chester had so much passion for gardening that he cleared a spot in their backyard for a massive greenhouse garden. He loved canning, especially pickles. Every Sunday was his traditional turkey dinner. He was a man who loved to shop and get a great deal with all those coupons he had. Chester was a man of great faith and we know he is with the Lord Jesus Christ. He will be dearly missed for his bold, outrageous personality and gift for storytelling. We will all miss you. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB. The family would like to thank the paramedics, doctors, nurses and staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre for the care and compassion shown to the family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chester's memory to a charity of your choice. Condolences, pictures and videos may be left on his tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • Our condolences to the entire family at this most difficult time. - Posted by: Valerie & Gordon Klym (Stetz) (Cousin) on: Feb 11, 2019

  • Little did I think, that upon meeting Chester at his shop on Henderson Hwy., about 35 years ago and being welcomed by his larger than life booming voice, that we would become lifelong friends. I am so utterly saddened to hear of his passing. This sadness however becomes somewhat bittersweet when I reflect upon our conversations over the years involving the Lord Jesus Christ and how believers one day will be re-united with their loved ones. As many of us know, Chester absolutely lived for his adventurous shopping trips to North Dakota. As usual, he would then call me and excitedly relay his expenditures with the use of coupons. At times it sounded as if the merchants were paying Chester for the goods and not the other way around! I only accompanied Chester on these excursions a couple of times, for various reasons. Besides being unable to keep up to his blistering, frenzied speed in the stores, I almost choked on gasoline fumes from spare full gasoline containers he carried inside his vehicle on all his trips. On another, his van headlights and heater decided to quit on one of the darkest and coldest nights of the year. It was at this point I realized that I did not possess what was required for these gruelling shopping expeditions! Maggie, I am so sorry that I will be unable to attend the service as I am presently out of the country. My condolences to you and the family at this most difficult time. - Posted by: Joe Bussoli (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2019
