JACK MCKENZIE
Born: May 27, 1928
Date of Passing: Feb 04, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK MCKENZIE Suddenly, but peacefully, Jack McKenzie passed on February 4, 2019. Jack was predeceased by his love, wife Colleen in 1992. He is survived by his children, Patti (Rob), Greg (Melody) and Marni (Al); and grandsons, Kirby, Jamie, Justin and Colin. Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 27,1928 and grew up in Elmwood with his parents and two older brothers, Jim and Harry. He was active as a member of the Kildonan Canoe Club where he made lifelong friends. Dad was an involved father. He and Mom drove us to all our activities. We had great vacations renting cottages, camping all over western Canada and the US, and later at our cottage at Black Sturgeon Lake, near Kenora. He also taught us all about home and car maintenance. Jack spent most of his career with the Government of Manitoba-Manitoba Health Services Commission (now Manitoba Health). He loved his career, where he made lifelong friends, but retired a bit early to care for our Mom. After he retired, he remained active on various boards for hospitals and foundations. Dad also took on a new role as Grampa Jack to his four grandsons and various grand dogs. He was always a willing baby and dog sitter for all. Dad was always a very social person who made friends easily. In his earlier years of retirement, he and special friend Gail Foster socialized and travelled with their friends and spent much time at the cottage. In 2011, after 56 years in our Woodhaven family home, Dad decided the big yard and meals alone were no longer for him. He decided to move to Concordia Village, and never looked back. Dad loved living in Concordia Village and told us this every time we saw him. At Concordia Village he made a new group of friends, including special friend Elsie Porznak. His daily routine included reading the Free Press front to back, doing the daily crosswords to keep his mind sharp, and 4 o'clock happy hour. He remained very active and involved in all the activities at Concordia Place until the day he passed. Dad was easy going, polite, thoughtful and always complimented people. He was always the eternal optimist. At his request, a private celebration will be held. As Dad was a very charitable person, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. My sincere condolences to the family. I knew Jack when I worked at Concordia Village as a server in the dining room and we became good friends. He was always so friendly and waved hello to me every time I saw him. We had a lot of great conversations about his life and mine and always complimented me. He was even involved in one of my high school leadership projects where he shared photos and stories of his life as well as played games with myself and a group of other residents. He made my time at the village so much more memorable and he was definitely my favourite resident. Rest easy Jack. - Posted by: Genna King (Friend) on: Jul 02, 2019

To Jack's family, our sincere condolences go out to you All. My parents, Helen & Wallie Haverstock were longtime friends to both Colleen & Jack going back to their early years along with Marge & Jim, Sheila & Dick Murphy, Velma & Paul Stewart, & then as neighbours in their early years on Oakdean Blvd. Although I was very young, I do remember your parents very fondly. I was the fortunate recipient of their attention they began their family & before our family moved to Montreal in 1960. They always kept in touch. This past Christmas your dear dad sent a Christmas card just as my brother Tom & I were moving my Mom & shortly afterwards, Dad from their apartment to Long Term Care. It had been my intention to have sent your Dad a message letting him know how pleased they were to received his messages. I can imagine that the memories that you hold of both Colleen & Jack will often bring a smile. Best regards, Debbie. - Posted by: Debbie (Haverstock) Brent (Daughter of Friends) on: Feb 13, 2019

Patti, Greg, Marni and families, please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your father. Jack (and your Mom Colleen) were such great neighbors and friends to us, and we treasured our over the fence discussions. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. - Posted by: Ron and Marilyn Sigurdson (Friends and Oakdean Blvd. neighboours) on: Feb 12, 2019

Jack was a real gentleman & always polite to everyone he met. Never a harsh word. He had 2 wonderful daughters that we enjoyed visiting with at the Big Whiteshell while we were there camping. Always had fun during our happy hours & swimming with the kids. He will be missed by his family as a wonderful Dad & Granddad. Rest in peace - Posted by: Gary & Marge Schmidt (Co-worker) on: Feb 09, 2019
