E. LORENE GEMMILL December 2, 1927 - February 23, 2019 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandma, nana, great-nana and GG, Edwina Lorene Gemmill. Lorene peacefully left this world on February 23, 2019, at Grace General Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. Lorene was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. Donald L. Gemmill, and is survived by her children: Marj (David) Holloway, Don (Debbie) Gemmill, Heather (Russ) Heslop, Bill (Sally) Gemmill, John (Melanie) Gemmill, Lorie (Jared) McLean, Dorothy (Tim) Watters and Doug Gemmill; 20 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Lorene is also survived by her sister Ann Chidwick, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Lorene was born December 2, 1927 in Kamloops, BC. She was raised in Kamloops, spending her summers with her family on Shuswap Lake. She did her education in Kamloops and continued her studies at University of British Columbia where she became a hospital dietician. On completing her training at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, she married Donald L. Gemmill on February 25, 1950. Lorene lived in various towns and cities as she raised her family and supported Don's medical career. While living in The Pas, Manitoba, Lorene and Don developed a love for the north and purchased property on Clearwater Lake. She continued, including the summer of 2018, to enjoy the many summers at the cabin and the many memories that went with it. Lorene's passion for quilting, singing in the Charleswood United Church choir, enjoying the many family gatherings, following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities, crosswords, cards, and early morning coffees in the gazebo at the lake, to name a few. She was very active with the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg auxiliary committee. Lorene believed that God had always helped her on her many journeys through life. She treasured the joys of a close and loving family and the gift of numerous lifelong friendships. The family wishes to thank the ER and third floor staff at the Grace General Hospital for their sincere kindness and care. I was very sorry to hear about Lorene's passing. She was a lovely person, kind to everyone. I always enjoyed seeing her and talking to her at church services and choir practice. I will always remember Lorene's smile - as a matter of fact, I don't remember ever seeing her without a smile on her face! She was always so positive and so interested in everyone and everything, and she had a way of making others feel the same just with her smile. She was loved! RIP, dear Lorene. My sincerest condolences to all of the family at this time. It's OK to cry in your sadness, and it's also OK to laugh with joy as you share memories of your wonderful mother and grandmother in the days ahead. - Posted by: Nancy Nowosad (Church Member) on: Feb 27, 2019

Lorene was an amazing woman. She was beautiful both inside and out. We sang in the choir together for many years. I enjoyed a closeness with Doug and his children starting when they were quite young. She was a true lady in every sense of the word. I will always remember her warmth and her infectious laugh. Rest in Peace Lorene. You will be missed. - Posted by: Coralue Bornais (Church fruend) on: Feb 26, 2019
