JEAN MARIE MARTIN January 5, 1929 - February 21, 2019 Our Mom, Jeanne, Jeannie, Grandma, Great-Grandma passed away peacefully, with us holding her hands, after a week of visits and talks with her beloved family and friends. She enjoyed a wonderful 90th birthday celebration just last month. Now she is reunited with our Dad, Phillip, (her Phip) who died March 1, 2011. They were married for 63 years and we have no doubt they are continuing their world travels together! Mom leaves six children to cherish her memory: Colleen (Al Connelly), Kathie May, Christine Martin, Ken Martin (Michelle), Kellie Martin, and Connie (Brad Mart), as well as 16 grandchildren, and ten (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews here and in England. Mom was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba, the youngest of six children herself. Her much loved siblings and sisters- and brothers-in-law and her beloved parents (Annie and Montague Schneider) have all predeceased her, as have many dear friends, but she kept their stories alive in her heart. Mom worked hard as a stay-at-home parent for many years, but rejoined the paid workforce in 1970, first in the kitchen at Oakview Place Nursing Home, then as a supervisor at Revenue Canada for many years. She and Dad lived in St. James on Conway, then Duffield, then in the Courts of St. James until Dad moved to Deer Lodge Centre. Then Mom lived at Sturgeon Creek II, until increased care needs brought her to Bethania Pembina Place Personal Care Home. She lived an active social and spiritual life for the past 18 months in a community of caring staff, friendly residents and dedicated volunteers - our heartfelt thanks to them all! Mom herself volunteered for Deer Lodge Centre for decades, she was an advocate for natural landscapes and stray animals, she was a voracious reader and public library user, and a generous supporter of many charitable organizations. A memorial service will take place Wednesday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Flowers and wreaths are respectfully declined, but please honour Mom's memory, by making a donation to, or volunteering for, an organization that touches the lives of children, elders, or animals.
