RUTH PARKER (nee MCKAY) 1919 - 2019 Peacefully, after a long struggle with dementia and disabilities, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Ruth Parker (wife of the late Arthur) on February 20, 2019 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg. She is survived by her daughter Margaret and husband Garry Streich and her son Craig and wife Gerri, also by grandchildren, Shauna (Michael), Susan (Keith), Darcy (Brandie) and Gillian (Cody); her great-grandchildren, Lauren, Aidan, Addison, Jaidyn, Kaden, Kai and Bode. She is also survived by her two sisters, Phyllis McDougall and Eliza Watson from Portage la Prairie and predeceased by several brothers and sisters and in-laws. She was a longtime and faithful member of Charleswood United Church, Charleswood Curling Club and also associated with Eric Coy Arena, and the Charleswood Horticultural and Historical Societies. She was born and raised on a farm in Portage la Prairie. After Art returned from the Second World War, they moved to Charleswood in 1949 where she became very active in the community until recent years. She also was famous for her beautiful knitting and knit 50 sweaters each fall for the Christmas Cheer Board. She loved gardening and being a friend to all! She loved to curl and did so until she was 88 years of age and, by then, she had also taken up lawn bowling! She loved all sports but especially the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and kindness. A special thank you to Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. Condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • When we first came to Charleswood in 1964 we couldn't help but notice this neighbour lady who seemed to WALK everywhere! She was always mobile at a rapid rate. As we grew to know her better through Charleswood United Church we always referred to her as "Little Mrs. Parker", knitter supreme! Many years later, as a maintenance person in Oakdale Gardens, part of my job description included having to stop local residents from cutting through the complex on their way to shopping. One day the person I spotted was Ruth! I couldn't tell her no! I walked with her! She was always so jolly, so positive and always a delight to talk to! Hundreds of kids wore her knitting! She had a heart big enough to love them all! We'll never forget "Little Mrs. Parker" - Posted by: Gord Grist (Neighbour) on: Mar 03, 2019

  • Your mom was such a friendly, warm person, with a beautiful smile. I remember your mom from the curling rink, Eric coy etc. She a special person which I know you will all miss dearly. I also would see your mom at Bramble Estates sometimes when she lived there, when I visited my mom. Take care and my condolences to you.
