MICHAEL WHARTON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad and friend. Dad passed away peacefully on February 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving wife Gayle and kids, Jeff (Mickey), Kelly (Darren) and Andrew (Wendy). Grumpy Grampa will be forever remembered by his grandkids, Melany (Stefan), Jennifer (Garth), Kristyn (Braden), Danielle (Ty), Vanessa, Tyrel and Scott. GG Papa will also be missed by Taylor, Brooklyn, Lincoln, Noah, Rylie and Carter. Dad will be remembered by his sisters, Pat (Ken) and Val (John), brother Ron (Lynn) and his lifelong friend Harold (Judy). Dad had many successful careers throughout his working life. These included U of M Deputy Registrar as well being a successful Real Estate Broker. Dad also managed the packing division at Globe Moving and ran his own lawn care business titled "You Sip, We Clip". Dad's favourite place was the cottage in Winnipeg Beach. Spending time with family and riding his lawn tractor were two of his favourite pastimes. Dad had a wonderful sense of humour that stayed with him until his passing. We would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion over the past several days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. A Celebration of Life is planned for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). I knew Val, Ron, Mike and Pat, when we lived on the same street, and just want to express my condolences to the family at this time. I just saw in the paper, quite accidentally about Mike’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss. Lynn (Hunt) Peet. - Posted by: Lynn Peet (Hunt) (Childhood friend of Val) on: May 23, 2020

Our heartfelt condolences to all of Mike’s family. We met Mike, Gayle, their kids and grandkids when Kelly and Darren bought the cottage next to ours at Winnipeg Beach. We always enjoyed the comraderie of the Wharton family and enjoyed their zest for life. May all the wonderful memories you have of Mike be a source of comfort as you grieve his passing. - Posted by: Ethel and Sid Soronow (Friend) on: Mar 08, 2019

Gayle and family. So sorry to hear of your loss. It seems so long ago meeting you and Mike and you blaming him on your birthday for the barbershop quartet serenade. Think of you and your family often. - Posted by: Dave Johnson (Friend) on: Mar 05, 2019

We are deeply saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. A kind and caring person - we certainly appreciated all he did to help us with our yard work after John’s heart attack, and the special care he took in looking after our Magee. Mike has left us with many fond memories and he will always hold a special place in our hearts. Gayle and family, please know that you are in our prayers at this very difficult time. - Posted by: John & Bev Pellick (Friends ) on: Mar 02, 2019

My condolences to Gail, Jeff, Kelly and Andy. Mike was a very good friend to me. We spent many hours on his deck at Winnipeg Beach laughing into the wee hours of the night only to wake up and do it all again the next day. Hunting, fishing, and training our dogs together are fond memories I will always have. He was like a brother to me and will always be in my heart. See you again my friend. - Posted by: Barry Marceniuk (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2019

My sincere condolences to you Gayle and family at this time. I lost my husband in Oct. 2018 as well to this horrible disease. We had 54 years of marriage so know how hard this is at this time. I know you and Mike had a very long relationship and hope at this time will give you some peace. I know I cherish every minute Ted and I had together. Warmest regards and memories of our relationship, Diane - Posted by: Diane Keep (McELROY) (Friend from Dominion Street) on: Mar 02, 2019

Mike and family were our neighbors at Boundary Park back in the 1960s. We delivered papers together and I had to run beside the bike on the route while Mike rode (figures). Many good memories come to mind. Regrettably we lost touch until meeting again unexpectedly at the forks last fall and a long catch-up...very sorry for your loss... - Posted by: Ken Sutherland (Old friend) on: Mar 02, 2019
