Date of Passing: Mar 05, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMITCHELL GORDON DUNCAN It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family announce the passing of Mitchell Gordon Duncan, age 56, on March 5, 2019, at his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mitch is survived by his son Joseph (Angele) Turchyn; grandchildren, Brehanna, Joseph (JJ) and Chase; mother Marjorie; sisters, Lynn (Jim) McLean and Pam Horan (Shaun); brothers, Ron (Donna) and John (Desirae) Duncan; nieces, Lyndsey, Carly, and Hanna; nephews, Brendon, Nick, Colin, Chris, and Adam, who will all carry on his memory. Mitch was predeceased by his father Gordon Duncan. Mitch lived his life to the fullest - worked hard and played hard. He was a driven entrepreneur and ran an accounting practice where he took pride in helping people to set up and run businesses, and was very passionate about making things right in the world. Mitch pursued his passions - hockey, baseball, skiing, fishing, reading, and travel. He thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family and friends on his adventurous journey. Mitch had a strong connection to Flin Flon, Manitoba where he took pride in sharing his Walleye holes at his "secret lake" and where he began his passion for the game of hockey. Mitch achieved great success in hockey, playing in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for the Winnipeg South Blues when they won the Manitoba Championship in the early 80s and spent two years playing in the British Ice Hockey league where he was scoring leader of the league. Mitch received the Province of Manitoba Order of Sports Excellence in 1982 when they beat the Flin Flon Bombers to win the Manitoba Junior Hockey League championship. Son, Father, Grandfather (Pops), Brother, Uncle and Friend - although taken from us too young, we remember all the great times together! Cheers to finding the best fishing holes in heaven! A celebration of Mitch's life will be held from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the Niakwa Golf and Country Club where you can drop in anytime. Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a eulogy, photo-tribute, stories, and condolences for the family by visiting Mitch's memorial page at IntegrityDeathCare.com INTEGRITY Cremation & Funeral Planning 204-295-5408 - IntegrityDeathCare.com

We are so sorry to hear of Mitch's passing. Please accept our delayed condolences. To the entire Duncan family....you are a special breed as far as we can tell. Beautiful in every sense of the word, motivated beyond the norm, and thoroughly engaged in all that life has to offer. Without having known Mitch himself, we know enough about the rest of you and from the tributes to understand he was a Duncan through and through. May your cherished memories of Mitch living life to the fullest with his heart wide open offer you all a sweet landing place in your sorrow and grief. Much love to you all. I’m so sorry I couldn’t make Mich’s Memorial. While I haven’t seen Mitch for many years, we spent a lifetime growing up with many others as we followed our hockey dream together. Mitch was always a smile, a laugh, a reason for hanging in there and putting up with all the complications of growing up. Without knowing him as well as I wish as we grew older, I know the Mitch I grew up with would be a warm, caring and thoughtful person as he proceeded in life. From far away I will always think of him as a friend, as a bright light that brought others joy and opportunity. Rest in peace Mitch. You did good work here and all of us are thankful. - Posted by: Mike cory (Old hockey friend) on: Mar 16, 2019

My deepest condolences go out to Joey, the grandkids and the rest of the Duncan family. Never a dull moment when Mitch was around from the earliest of memories back to when we moved in across the street back in the 1960s. His crazy grin, chuckle, and devilish grin will never be forgotten. Not the easiest guy to understand, especially during the years when Mitch went with no teeth from being an extremely competitive hockey player. Hoping that one day Mitch and Tocchet will be reunited in a better place. Until then brotha...rest in peace. Thanks for making my world better by having known you. Cheers! Rodney. - Posted by: Rod Stephanchew (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2019

To Marg& Family, so sorry for your loss. Mitch was one of a kind. When we moved to Duluth Bay in 1967, we became neighbors of the Duncan Clan. Our boys grew up together & shared many wonderful memories with this great family. Rick & Mitch were best friends & this friendship continued through adulthood. Mitch was always fun to be around & he lived life to the fullest. Gone too soon & we will miss his big personality & that mischievous smile of his. Rest in peace Mitch. You will be missed. - Posted by: Richard & Louise Stephanchew (Family Friends) on: Mar 15, 2019

Mitch was awesome...I worked at Century Arena during his time with the Winnipeg South Blues and found his easy smile and distinctive voice and crazy stories, a riot. We have a ton of mutual friends - near and far - and when anyone of them heard of his passing they relayed how sad they were and what a great guy he was. RIP Mitch and my condolences to all of his loved ones. - Posted by: Leslie Milne (Friend) on: Mar 13, 2019

He flew from Canada to England within a couple of hours from getting off the plane he was on the ice playing for the Chiefs against Billingham. What a brilliant first impression he made, total commitment and dedication. Because of his lovely personality he soon made lots of friends and was very popular off the ice, a true gentleman. During the two years that he spent in Sunderland I am proud to say he was my friend, I drove trucks for a living and I remember Mitch coming with me to Scotland to visit the country of his ancestors. I have lots of memories of this great guy that will stay with me forever. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Graham Aisbitt (Former manager Sunderland Chiefs) on: Mar 10, 2019

Sincere condolensces to the Duncan family. I was lucky to be a friend of Mitch since 1985 and it was great to see him last year when he visited. Such a sad loss. Given his great character he made friends instantly in the pub and will be missed by all in GB. Mick - Posted by: Mick Stafford (Friend and Team Mate) on: Mar 09, 2019
