Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGENA ADELLA MARY CHAPMAN 1929 - 2019 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Georgena Adella Mary Chapman, on February 28, 2019. Mom passed away peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre, surrounded by love, with family at her bedside. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Albert William "Bill" Chapman who passed away in the spring of 2004; as well as her beloved grandson Kyle in the fall of 2004, and most recently by her dear granddaughter Jennifer's husband Carlos in 2018. Mom was also predeceased by her parents, George and Esther Helliwell (1979 and 1989). Mom is survived by her five children: Lorne (Barb), Brenda, Donnie (Roseanne), Charlene (Don) and Bev; her eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; along with five sisters, one brother, a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born on August 6, 1929 in Calder, Saskatchewan. Seven years later, the Helliwell family moved to Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, where Mom grew up on the family farm, helping raise her younger siblings and continuing her education. Mom met and married Dad on November 2, 1949. Their first home was in Spy Hill and then a few years later their growing family moved to Inwood, Manitoba, followed by a brief move to Winnipeg. In 1960 their shared dream was finally fulfilled when they purchased the family farm at Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. Mom and Dad worked side by side on their farm for 44 years; harvesting many years of quality grain crops and managing a successful dairy operation. In semi-retirement, Mom was an active member of the Winnipeg Beach United Church. She was also a very creative lady who enjoyed doing ceramics and crafts for many years. After Dad's passing in 2004, Mom moved into the town of Winnipeg Beach, where she very much enjoyed her newfound neighbours; especially Friday afternoon tea times. A sincere thanks to Diane and Bob for all your care, concern and special friendship shared with Mom during the past 15 years. Our mom was the strongest woman we have ever known. She was our rock. Mom was strong in inspiration, and from that we learned the value of hard work. She was strong in her guiding hands and wisdom. Mom taught us that the only way to handle life's challenges was to face them head on. Our mother was strong in faith, and this was the very core of her. She provided us with an endless nurturing love. We will forever hold on tight to our most precious memories of her, remembering her strength and the wonderful life lessons she taught us all. To honour Mom's wishes, her funeral service was held in Spy Hill, SK on March 8, 2019 in the Spy Hill United Church. Mom was then laid to rest next to Dad in the family cemetery (in Spy Hill). We are comforted in knowing that our parents are together again; forever and ever. The family is extremely grateful to Ken Loehmer for all the care and compassion extended to our family during this difficult time. If so desired, donations can be made in Mom's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or the Dundas Cemetery, c/o: Lesley Bond, Box 1056, Teulon, MB R0C 3B0.
