ROGER JOSEPH PTASHNIK
Date of Passing: Mar 12, 2019
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROGER JOSEPH PTASHNIK P. Eng. Suddenly, on March 12, 2019, Roger left us, now free of pain. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice. Also grieving are brothers, Robert (Sheila), James (Renee), John (Clauzine); and sister-in-law Cathy (Reid), and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Elizabeth; father Martin, and mother Germaine; in-laws, Dora and Michael Walus; and sister Maryanne. Roger was born and raised in the Toronto area. He graduated from the University of Waterloo as a mechanical engineer finishing third in his class. He then began his long career in industry, travelling across Canada with his work. He completed his career as the Vice President of Amsco Cast Products in Selkirk, Manitoba. He was a member of the American Foundry Society for over 35 years and was Chairman of the Manitoba Branch for many of those years. He was very proud of the fact that even operating in a potentially dangerous industry, he lost no employees at work. He was a man with a sometimes gruff exterior who cared deeply for his family, friends, and pets, Kailey and Steele. He enjoyed golfing and gardening. He will be greatly loved and missed. There will be a private ceremony. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Elizabeth Ptashnik Endowment Fund at Red River College, 2055 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3H 0J7. Roger was my boss during my first job out of engineering school at Manitoba Bridge. He was an excellent boss, and taught me many valuable lessons about engineering, managing and leading people and about life. He would let you make mistakes, and then made sure you learned form them, thus a great mentor. When I left Manitoba Bridge to pursue my passion in aviation. Roger continued to help and mentor me whenever I called with problems. He and Alice became life long friends. Roberta and I always enjoyed our visits with Roger and Alice during our regular trips back to Winnipeg and he and Alice were always great friends to visit with, tell stories, talk about the past present and the future. Alice I know Roger will be missed but remember he will continue to be loved by all those who got to know him. Ron - Posted by: Ron Renz (Friend) on: Mar 21, 2019

My thoughts and prayers are with Alice on the passing of Roger. On relocating to Winnipeg many years ago I had the unexpected good fortune of working with Roger at the Canadian Bronze Company. Being new to the city and the company, Roger reached out to me without hesitation as a friend, a coworker and as a mentor. I recall his patience, kindness and sense of humour. I also recall the pride he took in his role and in his profession. Roger was an individual who willingly shared his experience and knowledge. As a leader Roger cared deeply about those on his team and those around him. I learned a great deal about business, leadership and about people from Roger. Something I am grateful for. My thoughts and prayers are with Alice at this difficult time. - Posted by: Mike Cuma (Colleague and Friend) on: Mar 20, 2019

Roger was a true friend. We worked, travelled together for many years promoting and selling Cast Products from Crusher Wear Parts to Ground Engaging Mining Parts. Roger was more than a work colleague, he was always there through times of sorrow to times of great joy. While we were geographically miles apart we often talked about everything from metallurgical problems to politics. Roger was a man of integrity and possessed a great sense of humour. We will truly miss your stories and recollections. Deepest Sympathy Peter & Jacqui Salmon - Posted by: Peter & Jacqui Salmon (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2019
