DOROTHY MARGARET SHERLOCK (nee PATTERSON) Dorothy Margaret Sherlock, nee Patterson, 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, died peacefully Wednesday evening, March 13, 2019, at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg in 1925 to Glen Patterson and Nora Wilkinson. She met her future husband Bill, a handsome Australian, when her dad brought him home for dinner, having met him while he was in training with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan outside of Winnipeg. It was love at first sight for both. Dorothy was a Canadian war bride, travelling to Australia after the war to marry her sweetheart. They lived in Australia for five years before relocating to Winnipeg in 1952. Bill and Dorothy celebrated 70 years together in August 2017. They raised four children, gained four more through marriage, and were blessed with 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Spending time with her family was Dorothy's favourite activity. She was always interested in each one and loved to keep up with what they were doing. With a strong faith in God and always interested in others, she prioritized developing strong relationships and friendships throughout her life. While she raised her children, she served her church in various roles, including leading the girls clubs for many years and women's ministries and activities. She had a special gift of bringing people together and was always gracious and accepting. She had an incredible memory, absorbing information about people and their families - caring so well for everyone around her. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Bill, in February 2019; and her siblings, Victor Patterson, Bernice Bolton, Billy Patterson and Audrey Sigurdson. She is survived by her children, William (Pam) Sherlock, David Sherlock (Jennifer Robinovitch), Anne (Harold) Penner and Alan (Lorna) Sherlock. She also leaves her grandchildren, Jesse and Joel Sherlock; Molly and Eddie Sherlock; Tristan (Eliza) Penner, and their children, Addie and Lyra; Arlie (James) Harnett, and their children, Callum, Sena and Emery; Raena Penner (Alexander Wright) and her child Soren; Breana, Alyssa and Riley Sherlock; as well as great-niece Aleia Everts and special longtime family friends, the Juneks.
