MERLE ALLISEN HEBERT August 27, 1923 - March 14, 2019 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Merle Allisen Hebert. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Jo Ann (Bill); sons, James and Warren (Claudine); grandchildren, Corey (Korina), Jenna (Winston), Jessica (Jason), Lindsay (Stefan) and Peyton; and great-grandchild Brooklyn. Mom was born in Treherne, Manitoba and was one of five children. She loved the outdoors and spent many happy times with her siblings on the family farm. Mom left home to teach school in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. She later returned to Winnipeg and met her husband James. They moved to St. Vital where they raised their family. Mom was the consummate "Grams". When the grandchildren came to visit, often for weekends at a time, she would drop everything. It was time to play and have fun. Spending time with the grandchildren meant the world to Mom and it was difficult to tell if it was Grams or the grandchildren who were more excited. Mom retired from the T. Eaton Company after working for more than 30 years. Following the passing of our father, she met Charlie and they formed a bond that endured for the rest of their lives. She had an idyllic life, wintering in Florida and spending summers at the lake. They had a very wide circle of friends and were busy all the time. However, nothing could replace the thrill that Grams experienced when the grandchildren (now much older) visited the cottage in Ponemah. We certainly can't hide the sadness that comes with losing such a kind, gentle and loving soul as our mother. We can only take consolation knowing that she is smiling down upon us. Many thanks to the Ullmann and Zientek families for their kindness to Mom. We would also like to thank nieces, Linda and Leona for the visits they made when Mom needed them the most. In honour of Mom's wishes, family and friends are invited to gather at the Niakwa Country Club on March 29, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. If anyone so desires, a donation may be made in Merle's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • We are all so sad to lose Auntie Merle, the light and joy she gave to all of us. She will never be forgotten; her wisdom and laughter will always be a happy memory. Times spent as a child with Jo-ann and Auntie Merle were always fun, and she always treated me like a daughter. I remember our talks in the evening after a big day of activities, and we always had tea and toast. Such an elegant and refined woman, and way ahead of her time, taking pride in working hard as a professional woman in business to help support her family, fiercely loyal to everyone she cared about, and caring deeply about everyone. So smart and beautiful in her lovely dresses and high heels and beautiful long red hair, heading out to catch the bus. Auntie Merle taught me to use makeup, and lip liner. And what a great cook! Lemon pies and chocolate layer cakes made from scratch with fudge icing! So good. I love you and miss you Auntie, safe journey, and keep them laughing in heaven. - Posted by: Linda Lawrence Lamb (Niece) on: Mar 25, 2019

  • Auntie Merle- I have so many memories of you when I was a child. Jo Ann and I had so much fun at your place. I love you and you have always had a special place in my heart. So sorry that we lost touch over the years but I loved seeing you a few years ago at our cousins reunion. I cannot think of my childhood without thinking of you. Love to all of you. • My heart & prayers are truly with y'all. Auntie Merle was the calm after the storm when my mother passed away in 1963. She was one of my most favorite relatives. Rest in peace dear, sweet auntie. You have and will always have a special place in my heart. - Posted by: Dorothy Hebert Pascher (Niece) on: Mar 23, 2019
