GLADYS MAY HILL May 3, 1931 - March 16, 2019 Mom was born and grew up in Girvin, Saskatchewan, where she married Dad in 1948. She was predeceased by her husband John C. Hill of 63 years, daughter Brenda Webber, son Earl Hill, parents Isabelle and John Findlay, brothers Bruce, George and Albert Findlay, sister Betty Murray, brothers-in-law Lawrence Murray and Walt Wilkie, and sister-in-law Vi Findlay. Devoted mother to: Patricia Melnuk (Bob), Laurie, John (Diane), James, and Brenda's husband Bruce, grandmother to: Arla (Roger), Misty, Jay (Renee), Justin (Laurie), Travis (Vanessa), Cailey (Kevin), Brittany (Devon), Jonathan (Sara), Camilla (Maas), Linnea, John Eric and Joshua, great-grandmother to: Olivia, Parker, Blaise, Isabella, Liam, Hayden, Keehan, Emily, Cal and Sophia. Also deeply grieving her loss are her sister Jean Wilkie, sisters-in-law Bea Findlay, Helen Hamilton and Marie Hill and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's first priority was family, keeping in close touch with grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who are going to miss those phone calls. She was the glue that held us all together. Mom has been a member of Sturgeon Creek Church since 1959 where she volunteered doing flower sales, funeral receptions, hospital visits and library duties. She also volunteered in the community as we were growing up, at the community club, school, Brownies and delivering Meals on Wheels. Mom loved gardening and canning, sharing her goodies with friends and neighbours, many of whom she cared for in times of need. Mom and Dad loved dancing and entertaining neighbours and travelling in their retirement. After nearly 60 years on Wallasey Street, where she made lifelong friends, she retired in her final year to Sturgeon 1, making many new friends and found much comfort in her final weeks. A special thanks to Dr. Dao, Dr. Ogaranko, the girls at Grace CancerCare, and our angel without wings, Sean, for all you did in caring for Mom. The family would also like to thank everyone at Sturgeon 1 for your friendship and support these past few months. Mom's Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3 or www.siloam.ca/donate/Winnipeg NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • We only met Gladys in her recent time st Sturgeon Creek 1. What a wonderful friendly lady, no wonder her kids all became endeared to us so quickly. Gladys sat at my Mom Joan’s table, and there was an instant bond with them from day one. Her family fit right in and generously include the ladies from Glady’s table to join them in the formal dining room on many occasions. How thoughtful! They were all so giving and sharing! We hope we don’t lose touch, whether we travel to see the Spring arrivals at the farm or visit the B and B in Costa Rica. My Mom especially will miss Gladys terribly. God bless you all! • What a very special lady . I learned so much from Gladys about grace, plants, food and friendship. I was blessed to have eaten so many of her fine home cooked meals. She always treated my family with love and respected both my parents who were Deaf . I feel like we may have lost the last member of my parents and extended family's era. I will miss her and want her kids and grand kids to know how very special she was. I am sending you big hugs and very sorry for your loss. • Our condolences and extreme sympathy to all of Gladys’ family and friends. We are devastated to receive this news.(Thank you, Laurie, for the phone message.). Our family has fond memories of your family and the kindness Gladys showed to us. In the recent past, my mother, Helen, always looked forward to speaking with your mom on the phone. When I last spoke with your mom a couple of months ago, she reminisced about a camping trip my parents and yours went on in the Rocky Mountains, without the very young kids. Your mom described feeling like a teenager again while goofing around with my mom! I loved the story she told me and I am grateful that I had that last opportunity to chat with her. She was a great friend! May she Rest In Peace now. - Posted by: Nancy Hack /Helen Murchie (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2019

  • Our condolences are with all of Aunt Gladys' immediate family members. We will truly miss her. She was a woman dedicated to family and community and exhibited all the best of traits: generosity, compassion, interest, and sharing her goods and talents. Uncle Jack and Aunt Gladys were a pair--devoted, fun-loving, and interested in all we did as we were growing up. Their visits to our farm at Aylesbury, SK, along with Pat, John Brenda, Laurie and James were immensely enjoyable. We shared in the joys of music, dancing, singing, and laughing. May she rest in peace - Posted by: Sandra Bruneau (Niece) on: Mar 23, 2019

  • Our sympathy to Gladys' family. As neighbors across the back fence for many years, we often had chats with Gladys and Jack and always admired their wonderful garden. - Posted by: Jeanette and Garry Kirk (Acquaintance) on: Mar 23, 2019
