DAVID EDWARD TAYLOR

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, David Edward Taylor, at Riverview Health Centre on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in his 89th year.
David was born in Winnipeg on March 20, 1930 and was predeceased by the love of his life "Georgie" who passed away October 6, 2014, and also by his father James A. Taylor, mother Mary E. Taylor, brothers, Jim, John, Ed, and sister Celia.
David is survived by his seven children, Michael (Kathy), Robert (Linda), Rose Marie (Steve), Cecile (Keith), Juliette (Ray), Jerry (Shannon), David Jr. (Keri) and Pamela. He also leaves to cherish his memory his 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, sisters-in-law, Pearl, Betty and Elaine, and many nieces and nephews.
David's faith was very important to him. His love and compassion for helping others brought him to his career as a Firefighter in St. James in 1956 and after 36 years of service he retired with the Winnipeg Fire Department as District Chief in 1992. At one point Dad worked additional jobs in order to support his family and never once complained. He loved his fishing and hunting trips with the boys to Falcon Lake and Big Whiteshell. The girls would race to meet him at the door when he came home from the fire department to see who could grab his hat and wear it first. Holidays were always a special time, but our dinner trips to A&W as a family of nine, packed into the station wagon, will always be an extra special memory. The greatest memories that Dad left with us are the daily demonstrations of his love and respect he had for Mom. He would always compliment her; hold her hand whenever they went out; and blow her kisses across the room.
It was an honour and privilege for all of us to be able to care for Dad through this difficult time in his life. Rest in peace Dad. It gives us great comfort knowing that you and Mom are holding hands again and watching over us.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Rev. Eric Giddins presiding.
The family would like to thank all who visited Dad at home and at Riverview Health Centre. Thank you to all of the palliative care nurses and doctors who treated him with dignity and kindness, to Rose Kennedy for her special visits and Sister Alice Konefall for her prayers and support.
Rest in peace Dad and may Mom and God keep you in their loving arms until we can all be together again. Our lives will never be the same without you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund in Dad's memory.

  • Sorry for your loss. You dad was one of my favorite fire captains as a young rookie. He was also a dear friend of my father's thoughout their careers from St James to Winnipeg and after. He was a true gentleman. RIP. - Posted by: C. Payne (co-worker) on: Apr 17, 2019

  • To the entire Taylor family, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I feel grateful that I had a short visit with your Dad not too long ago. Great chat we had. I will never forget that the very first time that I ever went to A&W was with the Taylor family in a big station wagon! I couldn't believe it at the time! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: C. McCarthy (Friend) on: Apr 13, 2019
