JEAN KATIE BAYDOCK (nee MANDRYK) It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Jean Katie Baydock on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 80, after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Matt, her two children, Bradley (Wendy Tretiak) and Sandra, and grandchildren, Benjamin and Alicia. Also left to mourn are her aunt Rose Polka, sisters, Mary Starodub and Vicky (Bert) Keryluk, and brother Willie (Vera) Mandryk, sister-in-law Linda Mandryk, brother-in-law Ernest (Stephanie) Baydock, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, Annie and Jack, brother John, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Jean was born on June 21, 1938 at home in Shorncliffe, Manitoba. Her early years were spent on the family farm. At the age of 17, she moved to the city and began working at the Health Sciences Centre. Shortly thereafter she took a supervisor position at Paulin Chambers. In 1957, Jean met the love of her life, Matt, at a barn dance. They were married on July 9, 1960 and settled in the St. James-Assiniboine area. Shortly before the birth of her first child, Jean decided to leave work to be a stay-at-home mother. As the children grew up she eventually returned to work part-time in catering at the Winnipeg Convention Centre and St. Charles Country Club, although she always said being a mom was the most rewarding job of her life. Jean was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. In later years, she found great joy in her grandchildren. She took an active role in their lives and she could frequently be seen attending their activities. She enjoyed getting back to nature at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods, where she and Matt would spend the peaceful early mornings on the deck with their cups of coffee, listening to the loons. She was also a passionate gardener who loved flowers and had an amazing green thumb. Jean was a very active member of St. Basil's Church and member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. She loved the spiritual and social aspects of the church, where she made many lifelong friends. A celebration of her life will take place with a mass at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street, Winnipeg on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. A time of fellowship will follow at the church auditorium. A private family interment will take place thereafter. In lieu of flowers, to show the family's deep appreciation for the care she received, please consider donations to CancerCare Manitoba or Palliative Manitoba. In keeping with Jean's wishes, she also asked that her friends and family perform an act of kindness in her memory. Jean....you were a very special lady. We enjoyed your sense of humor...your honesty and your kindness. I enjoyed speaking with you on the phone during your brave battle against cancer. You were candid, honest and yet amusing. In spite of your illness you were kind enough to phone to see how Larrie was doing....that, to us, was an indication of your faith, strength and unbelievable concern for other people. Rest in peace....till we meet again! - Posted by: Larrie and Patricia Chuchmach (Friends) on: Mar 31, 2019

We met our first year as members of St, Basil’s Parish in 1980. Jean was always the warmest and most welcoming of people. We worked closely with her and Matt at countless perogy makings, and fall suppers and many church functions. She loved to tell a joke or two! Jean was a class act and we will miss her dearly.
