JOHN RONALD THYEN Peacefully, on December 17, 2018, Dad passed away at the age of 88. Loving husband of Ethel (nee Cross) who passed away January 15, 2019, John leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Pat (Chris), Debbie (Rick) and Linda (David), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dad was born in Winnipeg on April 13, 1930. He attended school in Winnipeg, Brandon, and Yorkton, SK. Dad and Mom met in Yorkton High School and married in 1952 in Winnipeg. Dad worked 45 years in the insurance industry before retiring in 1995. Dad was a Lifetime Member, Past President, Secretary and Editor of the Military Collectors Club of Canada, along with memberships to various other clubs and organizations. For most of his life Dad collected and displayed military medals, and also had a passion for building model airplanes, tanks, etc. Dad was predeceased by an infant son Gregory John in 1965, parents Peter and Cecile Thyen, and brother Lorne. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for the care during Dad's final hours. Cremation has taken place and a joint Celebration of Life for Mom and Dad will be held at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road, Winnipeg on Saturday, April 6, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to a charity of your choice.
