LEO HEBERT Peacefully, with his family at his side, Léo Hébert passed away on March 23, 2019, at the St. Pierre Hospital, at the age of 95 years. Léo was born on November 8, 1923 in Carey, Manitoba. He leaves to mourn two sisters, Lorraine Bérard (late Gérard) and Cécile Roy and his sister-in-law Marie-Ange (late Bernard), as well as many cherished nephews and nieces. Léo was the son of the late Henri Hébert and Odila Lacroix. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Bernard, Benoît and Gilbert, two sisters, Raymonde and Cora, his brother-in-law Gérard Bérard, his nephews, Gilles and Richard Hébert, and his great-nephew Gérard (son of Aimé and Lucille). After completing his studies at the school in Carey, Léo worked with his dad and became part-time owner of the farm and the dairy herd. Léo was very dedicated to the St. Pierre-Jolys community. He was a school trustee, general director of the United Farmers and director of the St. Pierre Agricultural Society. He was one of the founding members of the St. Pierre Museum and a standing member of the committee for over 12 years. An exciting part of his volunteer work was the Cabane à sucre, where he worked alongside his best friend, Armand Desharnais. He always looked forward to handing out the maple syrup taffy to school children and the tourists at the Festival du Voyageur. Léo also loved travelling. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 (prayers and eulogy at 10:00 a.m.) at the St. Pierre-Jolys Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the St. Pierre Cemetery. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff of Chalet Malouin for the great care given to Léo. We would also like to express our thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Bethesda Regional Steinbach Hospital and DeSalaberry District St. Pierre Hospital. A special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kiani for her continuous care and support given to Léo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Musée de Saint-Pierre-Jolys, 432 rue Joubert, Saint-Pierre-Jolys, MB R0A 1V0. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Mon Onlce Leo Hebert, my dads older brother by 2 years, is one of my favorite Uncles. His quiet kind spirit; also a quiet funny sense of humor. I grew up seeing him every summer on our drives to Canada. He let me milk cows, drive the tractor & his ATV and run all over the barn chasing cats. He did love to travel and has seen a lot of the world, but we enjoyed his visits Arizona. A hard working loyal St. Pierre Man. I'm happy to have quickly visited him 6 months ago. I've always cherished our times together. -My Hebert Family - Posted by: Suzette Hebert-Bush (Niece) on: Apr 11, 2019
