LOUISE PROULX
(MARIE LOUISE PROULX) (nee CHALE)
On March 26, 2019 Mom passed away peacefully, with family by her side.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Bennie; her mother Leontine Chale (nee Gobeil); father Jean Baptiste Chale; brothers, Roland (Eileen) and John (Marge), and sons-in-law, Ken Buhr and Ray Homeniuk.
She leaves to mourn, her son Denis (Moira), and her daughters, Lou-Anne, Diane, Janey (Garry), Evelyn (Glen) and Jacquie (Eric); her seven grandchildren, Kevin (Tracey), Carolyn, Kristin (Dan), Stephen (Ange), James, Michael and Dan, and seven great grandchildren, Nolan, Ben, Liam, Maddex, Logan, Brooke and Theo; as well as her brother Leon (Doris); sisters, Grace and Eveline, and extended family.
Louise was born in St. Boniface on April 23, 1924, and grew up and was educated in St. Boniface.
On April 12, 1944, Louise married the love of her life, Bennie Proulx, a member of the Air Force and a dashing motorcycle champion, whom she had admired from afar, since she'd met him when she was a young girl. The young couple moved to Vancouver where Dad put in for active duty. Following the war the new family began to grow as they moved first to Rivers, Manitoba then to Edmonton, followed by a move to Ottawa. A final posting returned them to Winnipeg where they purchased a home in beautiful Woodhaven in St. James.
While raising her family, Mom also found time to work at a florist shop, in a dress shop and finally at the St. James Library, where she worked for more than 10 years.
Mom was proud of her happy marriage and family. She enjoyed entertaining visitors in her home and visiting or going out for dinner or to the Officers' Mess with Dad and their many good friends. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, listening to music and watching TV - especially old movies. She was friendly and kind, and loved to chat with anyone about anything.
In 1972, Mom and Dad bought a cottage at Ponemah and the family enjoyed many summers there. Ten years later, retirement meant Mom and Dad were able to spend more time together in town and at the cottage. The couple then purchased a condo in St James where they lived happily until Dad fell ill; at which time they moved into Kiwanis Assisted Living in St. James.
When Dad passed away in 2002, Mom remained at Kiwanis and set about living her life to the fullest; just as Dad had encouraged her to do. Mom lived her life quietly and gently, always keeping in close touch with family and friends. She kept Dad in her heart for her remaining 17 years.
In the last few months, as Mom's health declined, she was moved to the Charleswood Care Centre. With calm acceptance of her condition, she continued to demonstrate a dignity and grace we knew so well. On March 26, 2019, just shy of her 95th birthday, Mom quietly passed away.
We miss you, Mom.
You will always be in our thoughts.
At Mom's request, a formal funeral will not be held.
Those who wish, may make a donation in her memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.

Dear Lou and siblings, No matter the age, it is always sad to say goodbye to a dearly loved parent. Your tribute to Auntie Louise was lovely and reflected who she. Your love for your Mother was obvious in the care you gave her over the last few difficult years. We send you our prayers and our love. Dear Lou-Anne, Denis & all siblings, My deepest condolences to you and family for the loss of your dear mom., tante Louise. This brought a lot of great memories thinking of your visits to the Vermette farm in Aubigny when we were young. I always admired the beautiful relationship your mom and dad had. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time. Take care. Sincerely, Yvette - Posted by: Saurette Yvette (Friend) on: Apr 08, 2019

Tante Louise will forever hold a special place in my heart. She and Uncle Bernie so graciously took me into your family one year as I was studying in Winnipeg, and for that I will always be thankful. Her great generosity, her loving disposition and her great friendship will remain very special to me. I want to offer my sincerest sympathies to the whole Proulx family. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you in these very difficult times. Even though she has left this world, she will always be with you in your hearts. May she rest in peace! - Posted by: Lise (Vermette) & Gilbert Ruest (Cousin of family) on: Apr 08, 2019
