GORDON JAMES DAVIS
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia of 69 years; two sons, Andy and Jeff; three grandchildren, Chris, Matt, and JJ (Joshua); and many family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and May Davis; and brother Murray Davis.
Gord was born in Elmwood on November 25, 1926 and lived most of his life in East Kildonan. He was very involved in sports growing up and excelled at hockey and lacrosse. He later enjoyed officiating and coaching as well. He also enjoyed hunting and yearly trips with his friends to a makeshift cabin that was actually a converted transit bus. He worked for many years at the Canadian Wheat Board and at the end of his working career for the Grain Transportation Authority prior to retiring in 1984. As an adult, he became active in curling and developed a lifelong passion for golf. He was a longtime member of Pine Ridge Golf Course and spent so many happy hours there with friends and family. He was a devoted family man who truly enjoyed and valued his time with family. As a father he enjoyed many summers at Falcon Lake and later on, summer trips to the lake with his family and grandchildren. Gord's retirement was a very happy time for him as it gave him the opportunity to develop a deep bond with his grandchildren. "Poppy" always loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an enthusiastic spectator at all their activities (hockey, swimming, golf and much more). He also enjoyed many winter vacations during his retirement with Virginia or on golf trips with his Pine Ridge buddies.
We wish to thank the management and staff at Golden Links Personal Care Home for their care and compassion over the last few years of his life.
Gord was always there to help and support his family. There are so many memories of family get togethers which will be cherished forever. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, located at 4477 Main Street at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gord's memory to Diabetes Canada.
