JOHN E. WALKER
John leaves to cherish his memory Gisele, his beloved wife of 51 years, brother George Walker (Claire), nieces, Kristin Walker (Gail), Jennifer Neilson (David), sisters-in-law,
Regina Eyssens (Richard), Carmen Matthews (David) and brother-in-law Ralf Seifert along with many more nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Dorothy Walker.
John was born and raised in Winnipeg, graduated from Sisler High School and served in the HMCS Chippewa Navy
Reserves. He joined the Winnipeg Fire
Department in 1963, working throughout the city during his career. He was a dedicated Firefighter and retired Battalion Chief in 2001 with 38 years of exemplary service. In retirement he was an active participant in the Fire Department Honour Guard to pay
respectful tribute to his colleagues.
Johnnie, as he was often called, was a kind and loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to many. Known for his generous nature, sense of humour and his infectious laughter. He enjoyed trap shooting, playing golf and
travelling from coast to coast for the Grey Cup games. In retirement John and Gisele
enjoyed travelling and cruising to many great destinations. John always enjoyed watching golf and following both the Bombers and the Jets. We mourn his passing but will keep his memory forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.

When I first started my firefighting career in '91 I had the honor of having him as my captain at #1 station. A great captain as I always felt he had my back in mentoring me even though others did not want women on the job. He shared his scrapbooks of all the major fires pics during his career... he took much pride in his profession. I hope they make their way to the Firefighter Museum or another place for display. John was like another big brother to me. Always smiling, always happy and always ready to help. John hung out with my brothers Dick and Bill and was at our house often. John always had time to kid around with me and I loved him for it. My deepest condolences to you Gisele, your Johnny was a very special man and will be deeply missed. I hope John, Ray, Dick and Bill are together again catching up on all the years they missed together. Love, Susan - Posted by: Susan Rogers (Friend) on: Apr 17, 2019

We never got to spend much time together, busy lives. Gisele, we met once to my collection, sorry for your loss, had always hoped to spend more time with you both. Gentleman Johnny Walker, showed his pride in his job by the way he wore the uniform. He was, in my opinion, a good firefighter and a good officer. I hope he enjoyed his retirement. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Collegue) on: Apr 13, 2019

Chief Walker always was a quiet, strong presence, whether in uniform all spit and polished, or in Firefighting gear down and dirty he was all business. Guiding, leading, and knowing all in his command. He truly cared for everyone and respected you for who you are. Thank you Chief Walker Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Stephen Sumka (Firefighting Colleague ) on: Apr 13, 2019
